I know that there are 2 new carriers but the amount of decommissioning and reduction of numbers is ridiculous. Isn't a navy a country's power projection? Does the UK government not realise this? Do they not care?

Meanwhile, Japan, which has a smaller defence budget, is increasing the size of all of its armed forces branches. I know they don't have foreign commitments and only defend themselves, but even so how does that work out? Why is the government always overspending yet reducing numbers?
