This is all true. I used to date a multimillionaire, and she was the most miserable person I have ever met. On paper her life looked good; she didn't really need to work and she could do whatever she wanted. That's probably pretty rare. Usually new grads are paid dirt cheap wages.
Also I'm doing chemistry which is pretty underpaid. There's a lot of foreigners with simple chem tech degrees working here cause you don't need that special of certifications. They can't really move up though because their english is bad and they don't do well with clients.

It's a pretty relaxed industry though. It's sort of rush rush but not that much. It's all limited by the equipment so nobody is there beating you to go faster.
It's more relaxed than tech industries and the companies are generally the same sort of atmosphere.
Most of my friends that did engineering are unemployed these days because of the oil collapse and I'm in an environmental lab so I'm pretty shielded from any economic issues. It's pretty unlikely for environmental regulations to decrease very much any time soon.

The TFWs actually can make more. One of my friends used to be a TFW and he did inevitably get a job making $15/hr after he applied to a few jobs. I didn't think they were allowed to switch jobs but apparently as long as a place is willing to sponsor them they can. There's no limitations on their wages either. The original purpose of the TFW program was for things like our nuclear industry and whatnot where we had to bring in foreigners that could help with research.

Even here though for a while engineering interns were getting paid like $30+/hr by oil companies. But nowadays they're lucky if they can find a job at walmart lol
Obviously I'd like to be making tons of money but it's not really possible anymore. I did work for an oil company while getting my degree and the people in the oil industry are just kind of shitty. Everyone there knows you can be laid off at any time so it's just like everyone is always watching their back and you have to be so careful about what you say and do. It's a really annoying industry to be involved in.
