So, can somebody explain to me why approval ratings mean fuckall except maybe in the year of an election? And have the republicans not WON all the special elections since Trump became POTUS? Even the one where a reporter was bodyslammed by the candidate?

SO WHY DOES ANYONE GIVE A FUCK?
>>
>>135692887
Low approval rating means you have no mandate to lead. It means Congress doesn't have to give a flying fuck about what you want to do or legislation you want passed.
>>
>>135693658
Okay, so mandate to lead is not gained through elections, but from approval numbers gained by private polling firms.

for your first answer.

Second answer; All of the special elections were in Republican majority districts which have typically voted Republican for decades. Yet all of them were extremely close for democrats, in what should have been stomps for the GOP.

Trump had a tenuous grasp in swing states where he managed to win because he got a couple thousand votes where it counted. Right now, Trump's approval is at an extreme low, and there is a lot of backlash against the GOP for getting nothing done for the past 6 months. Trump and GOP resentment, as well as a potential restructuring of gerrymandered states (depending on how the Supreme Court goes, although that restructuring could take awhile), and the GOP party could be gutted.

There are still a few special elections coming up in the fall, and 2018 will definitely answer whether we can expect Trump's second term (assuming there isn't a bombshell and he's impeached). If the GOP loses majority, Trump is cucked.

t. Doesn't know how statistics work

Trump supporters are fine parading around polls when they show Trump in a good light, but when they suggest he's unpopular, they clam up.

Trump was already unpopular when he was elected. Hillary won the popular vote. His administration since has been plagued by scandals, resignations, firings, and he's gone back on multiple big promises, either due to himself (China a currency manipulator), or because of his incompetence to lead his party (GOP health bill). Flashing off election predictions doesn't change that Trump's major accomplishments have only been through executive orders (not including ones that haven't been gutted by courts), and that even Republican leaning organizations like Fox News and Breitbart are beginning to question his leadership capabilities.

Holding your heads in the sand crying about "Muh lamestream media lying" and "Le God Emperor MAGA" does not fix the serious faults that are crippling the administration. You are doing the exact same thing that you are criticizing election polls of doing; ignoring the facts.

>>
>>135695008
Absolutely, but I don't see it happening.

There is no excuse for Republicans for their healthcare fuckup. They had 7 years to come up with a replacement. And they got nowhere. No one is buying that Democrats held them back; Republicans are in a majority, and own the issue. Trump had absolutely no part in actually trying to push reform; he has no clue what was in the bill. Fuck, most Republicans didn't know either; it was drafted pretty much exclusively by McConnell, with no input from anyone.

If Republicans can't get together to make good on one of their core promises, do you really think they're going to be able to put together a fucking budget? Especially since, again, the Trump administration is getting called out on how ridiculous their proposal is (predicting a GDP increase that hasn't been seen since the 40's and has no indication of happening, gutting extremely popular social services, etc).

I'll say it again so maybe it gets into your thick skull. Clinging to how right or wrong election night polls were does not change what Trump's administration has or hasn't accomplished in the last 6 months.

If you are basing what you think is going to happen in a year from now by relying on 2016 election polls, you will be extremely disappointed.

If you ignore the current flaws and struggles of the administration and focus on how much you won 8 months ago, you will be disappointed.

Also, only one poll has ever mattered. You were talking a lot of shit the night before the election. I hope "the meltdown" wasnt too painful.

Yet congress has an approval rating below 15%. Where is thier mandate to pass laws? These polls only give the media something to point and yell about.

It would be fucking worth it one thousand times over. If I had to pick peanuts out of shits that were taken on the side of the road but roving groups of marauders while the world crumbled into some Mad Max horror show, it would be worth it. I cannot express enough how worth it that it truly was to see politics shaken to its core.
