Make sure you get a clearance before you get out (top secret is best but a minimum of secret) do not fuck up your credit as this is as much of a career killer as a criminal record. Very low reenlistment rate. 75% of marines do not reenlist. This is for 2 reasons. 1. Most people often dislike the Marine Corps to the point they do not want to prolong the experience, but usually respect the short experience and the impact it had on their life.

2. Even if you wanted to, a lot of the time the Marine Corps is not interested in you reenlisting. They desire to keep a small size they avoid exceeding, meaning even if you want to stay, they might not even let you. You're only option could be to join a completely different branch.

If you really want to be a marine that badly, don't let me talk you out of it. But keep your goals, desires, and how you want your military career to pan out in mind when you make your decision.

Looking back on when I joined at 17, I would say that knowing what I know now, I probably would not have joined. But hindsight is just that. This. When you say "history of drug use", do you mean record? Will this show up in recent medical records? Have you received legal citations or arrests for drug use or possession?

Remember MEPS can only disqualify you for what they can prove. If you're like me, and that you have no record of drug use (even though I have used), and the use of such drugs were long enough ago it is impossible to pop a conventional urine drug test. Then that means "I have never touched drugs." And you will say nothing different.
