We've been through this routine several times before. Trump (and his advisors) must know that no matter how much they don't want Bannon, they can't fire him before the 2020 re-election. If Trump were to fire Bannon, it would be the final nail in the coffin for so many Trump voters who are worried that Trump is doubling back on his promises. Trump and his team must know that firing Bannon would have this effect. I don't think they are willing to take that blowback from their core base of supporters, no matter how much they don't like Bannon.
