There's definitely a "look at this idiot" aspect to pewdiepie's success, people tuning in to laugh at him, not with him, with his speech impediment, his bronie name, his awkward childishness, etc.

With the way Youtube works, it's not even a matter of people's tastes. It's also what the algorithm does to promote tweets, and how it orders search results. If something gets more views by some coincidence, then it will be promoted to get more and more views, in a positive feedback loop that often pushes absolute pointless garbage that nobody wants to watch into the millions of views by constantly being at the top of search results and in the suggested videos.

There's a real phenomenon of people, especially kids, watching Let's Plays in order to enjoy the content of games they can't afford to buy, or which won't run properly on the devices they own. So with this algorithmic positive feedback loop lottery, there were sure to be a few big winners in the Let's Play category, who consistently become the top search results for hot game titles.

Two people, Lpa and Lpb, put out essentially identical videos, Lpa1 and Lpb1, of themselves playing a game with an ordinary level of skill. By chance, before the algorithms have noticed either, Lpa1 gets 1% more views than Lpb1. Then the algorithm puts Lpa1 in the search results before Lpb1, and recommends Lpa1 instead of Lpb1. Soon, Lpa1 has 10 times as many hits as Lpb1.

When they each make another video, Lpa2 and Lpb2, the algorithms already know Lpa and remember that he got 10 times as many hits as Lpb, so they start out putting Lpa2 way up in the search results and recommendation priorities before Lpb2. So Lpa2 gets 100 times as many hits as Lpb2.

Soon, Lpa's videos are getting featured on the front page for users that the algorithm knows nothing about, while you can only find Lpb's videos by specifically searching for them, or looking on the third page of search results. Lpa ends up with 10 million views per video, while Lpb gets 30 views per video.

Then Lpa starts getting paid, giving him more resources to work with, he starts getting offers of free help and games, he's getting lots of feedback on what people like or don't like, everyone's helping him make better videos. So now Lpa's videos start to actually be better than Lpb's, because he has a production budget, convincing reasons to make this his primary job, a supportive fanbase, and collaboration opportunities.

All without Lpa being any smarter or more talented than Lpb, or his initial videos being any better.

I'd still consider the UK a decent place to live as long as you are outside of the melting pot hellholes of certain London borough and Birmingham. Some of the cities are great, Bath and Edinburgh stand out.

I'm not saying 4chan was far left, only that it was perceived as far left by retards who don't understand anything about the site.
Everything that we see on 4chan proliferates through memes.
So it's not that the site has some left or right lean, only that people meme left or right ideas enough that they start to gain traction.
That said, there are plenty of things that still trigger the right on 4chan, namely loli/shota and the like.
