It's hard to prove plagiarism, though. There was some woman who claimed to have originated the term 'muggle' who tried and failed to sue Rowling quite early on. More compelling is the possibility she lifted some ideas from Neil Gaiman's comic The Books of Magic. The protagonist is a dead ringer for Harry Potter in age and appearance. He even has a pet owl. But even this is inconclusive.

It might be better to examine the 'impoverished-single-mum-finds-fame' fairytale narrative for cracks than to focus on the plagiarism, which will be close to impossible to prove since all books are 'plagiarised from', or influenced by, other sources to some degree or another.
