I'll try to be as unbiased as possible, but I highly encourage you to listen to the podcast.
A subsect of Hassids have bought up property in the community and are an extremely closed community. They bloc voted their way onto the school board, slashed funding to the public school district (to the possibly illegal extent that students couldn't even take the state required classes to graduate) and then illegally routed public education funds to their private religious schools to pay for their exorbitant special ed costs due to a higher than average population of special needs kids.
That's my best attempt at being non-biased. What I really think is that they are a brainwashed religious-based cult with absolute monsters as their leaders. The village of Kiras Joel is a cesspool of medieval backwards thinking which would be shocking to most of America if they knew about it.
While they don't preach violence, they do whatever they want regardless of zoning or any other kind of law/regulation and toss around the accusation of anti-Semitism against anyone who speaks up against what they're doing.
