She had a well known relationship inside FOX with Ailes. She was his fuckpiece for at least 1 year before she got her "correspondent gig" at Fox. Word on the street was she was a call girl and was both an enabler and eventual leaker_zero for Ailes termination / sex harassment issues.

The catalyst was Megyn wanted to be the next Barb Walters and make a full career out of "hitting Trump" for the next 4 years while directly taking on Anderson Cooper for the big chair at NBC. When Anderson declined, she thought Fox would fight for her to remain at Fox, only to be dropkicked because the Murdoch's did not want to piss off their base, having seen how badly Megyn was leading upto and after the first debate vs. Trump/Jeb.

Fox has been divided between the pro-Trump and anti-Trump factions when he first started running, with many on the anti-Trump side only begrudgingly supporting him. It's probably gotten better since Tucker Carlson showed how profitable it is to be pro-Trump, but you can see elements of the anti-Trump people on shows like The Five.
