There are a few standardized and as-accurate-as-possible-IQ tests. The most famous one would be the "Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale" test.
It's been fine-tuned and revised over the years, adapted to different age groups, countries, etc. The current version is the WAIS-IV. The 5th revision is currently being worked on.

Online tests are superficial. A trained psychologist will catch details that a "machine" won't and take in account stuff like stress, mental issues, depression, etc...

It's also about determination and courage. Taking an official IQ test is often a leap of faith, one that can make or destroy someone's self image.
Doing it online doesn't have the same effect : people cheat, round up scores, self deceive. They'll stop the tests if they realize it's not going well, rationalize it ("the test was crap anyway" or "I'm too clever to that anyway")... etc...
Taking a real test makes this impossible. They won't suddenly interrupt the test and walk away (probably no refund) if goes south. Once in they push through.
Doing it online is often just some lazy feel-good self-reassuring. Actually doing it can make or break ya.

This. 142 IQ here, it's fucking hell. I'm thankfully not completely socially retarded either as I forced myself to overcome that stuff by pushing myself to be more outgoing when I was young. I played sports and even did some acting in school to push my boundaries but I'm still pretty autistic at times.

I'm smart but I'm also unable to focus. I'm socially skilled but I'm also hyper analytical and self judging in those situations. I consume information and retain it like a sponge but being middle class, I'm powerless to affect change with that knowledge and I just end up venting on image boards. I'm good at talking to women but eventually my intelligence betrays me and they get intimidated.

High IQ is a mistake if it brought us to this current situation. I love understanding extremely complex subjects but there is a huge tax placed on that privilege.

I consider most people to be extremely fucking boring to talk to. The things I see people post on Facebook makes me lose faith in humanity. Then it gets worse when I realize all of these idiots have a say in the country's politics. Anyhoo, most things are pretty easy to learn, and I'm pretty good at just about everything. Very little that I can't do well at.

Funny thing I've noticed is that truly intellectual conversation is like crack to higher IQ people. It's so rare to find, so when you finally do you can sit there for hours on end discussing all sorts of topics to get as much out of it as you can.

I think it's difficult to understand the lives of people 1-2 standard deviations up or down from you, just can't relate. I mostly try to avoid dumb people and can't understand why they're interested in the most vapid sorts of shit, and higher IQ people are just so hard to find you don't get that many experiences with them to really get a grasp on the kind of people they are.

I landed a decent job in maintenance and have been improving my employable skill set ever since.
That said, my intelligence has allowed me toanage my money and I have a house without a mortgage; fully own my car and truck; and have a nice fat savings account with some gold and silver as a hedge against bad times.

Never had my IQ tested, but I scored high enough on the SAT to become a national merit finalist. I'm no genius, but I am smart. I'm naturally fairly humble most of the time however since I used to have self-confidence issues that originated from being a fat fuck. Seeing IQ as an ultimate judgement of value is a fallacy of our times. In the middle ages, IQ had no effect on 99% of people as they were serfs with no possibility of upward mobilization. Your physical qualities however were essential to your survival. That started to change after the industrial revolution. Machines started to take over back breaking work and more opportunities opened up for high IQ people. We've been riding that train for the last 150 years and it feels like it's the norm, but it's not. Recent breakthroughs in AI suggests that white collar jobs will start to disappear real soon. It won't matter if you have 160 IQ when AI can do whatever you can and a million times faster. We're closing in on that paradigm shift really fast.
