I think more young men need this lesson. Bullies don't always end up being alcoholic losers who never left town and live in the past. And bullied kids don't always wind up millionaires with 8 college degrees and a beautiful spouse.

Sometimes it's the opposite. And in that case, it suggests that the bullying was justified. Perhaps the bully can see the weakness in the bullied, and is trying to toughen them up in that kiddish way that they don't truly understand their actions. You could have called me a bully a few times. But it was always some nerdy pipsqueak spaz who ran his mouth at me. And that's the thing, I'd have been called a bully, but it was the kid who was actually asking for it. Our society is so fucked up that we consider the winner of a schoolyard scuffle the bully, and the loser the bullied. And we're taught to expect the bully to become a failure, resentful of everyone who succeded, etc. And the Slave Morality that so many faggot losers cling to is the notion that they're going to live a life of adventure and become something special.

Sad truth is that most of them go to college, think they're special for having learned a few basic concepts, and then move to a city where they think they've achieved importance just by living in a city. Then they become unique snowflakes who think their life in the big city is some kind of adventure. So when they come back home they look down on normal people who haven't attached their psyche to the big, important city. They look down on ruralites because they 'didn't go anywhere'. Meanwhile they're underachieving at a coffee shop, or being a bicycle delivery boy, and the 'losers' who 'never got out of town' are making $70k as a factory foreman, raising 2 kids, and fucking their highschool sweetheart every night.

I don't know what my bullies are doing these days. But they taught me that little guys like to go after big guys, in spite of what you hear on television. They can be downright vicious. As much hell as it is to go through, bullies are worth it because they always have something to teach you that you need to see in person to get. If you just have people telling you to play nice and be a good person, you don't listen because you don't experience it. You need a reason to get stronger or do better, and a lot of people need someone to kick them to do it. We grow through adversity, and we stagnate in peace.

Me and my buddies used to bully a weak friend of ours. He was wishy-washy, non-committal about everything, and too much of a hippie peacenik. So he was the easiest target for jokes, since you risked getting iced back if you targeted any of the other guys. It was a subconscious thing, where the easiest guy to razz just started getting all of the razzing from us.

One day, we made some jokes about how he was going to die by being skull fucked to death. It became a running joke, and we'd bring it up almost every time he was around. Eventually, he just stopped us all and said "hey, guys, I'm getting a bit tired of being the butt of everyone's joke. You're talking about me dying by having someone fuck my eye socket. That's not what friends say about one another, and it's making me feel like you guys don't really like me. I've always liked you guys, but I can't hang out with you if you're going to treat me like shit."

It was a pretty sobering moment, actually. We just stopped, said sorry, and never cracked jokes about him again. He seemed so serious about it, despite the fact that the whole thing felt so un-serious to us when we were doing it.

It's hard to put yourself in the shoes of someone who's always the butt of the joke. Even if you feel you're being playful, you're sending a message to that person that they're not valuable, or not good enough. And that's a shitty way to treat a friend.

I remember my first socially dominant bully, he was basically more socialized and confident in himself while I did loner shit like change gym clothes in the restroom. I was easy prey being an extremely pale ginger, I usually didn't do shit about anything he said or did (it was never physical violence tho).

At some point the shenanigans reached a level of theatrics that I became acutely aware that I was viewed as someone who could be picked on whenever my bully felt like it. So I went and hit him in the back of the head with a folding chair first chance I got. Again, he never got physical, so he was surprised. For some reason he only got in my face and pushed me a bit after getting chair. Then I left that school.

I saw him again after about three years, we nodded heads at each other and walked off.

I'm not a bitch today because of him.

I've actually spent a lot of time thinking about this in the past few days, and the answer is no.

Jordan Peterson talked a lot about good an evil, but his explanation was that evil causes undo harm and good is to prevent it.

But the question is; does bullying actually help the person in the long run? The answer is no.

Most people bully because they were bullied themselves. Either by other kids or their parents. It's almost a statistical anomaly how much bullies really have a lot of repressed negative emotions.

Not to mention; most human societies evolved with maybe 30-40 people in a group MAXIMUM. So when you think of the social dynamics, sure there was bullying - but most often bullies have very limited interaction with the people they are abusing. Having more interaction and spending years together gave those who were being bullied a chance to actually confront them and learn enough about them to fire banter back.

But nowadays it's way too hard. Especially online. Even with people like Rebecca Black, I literally cannot understand how someone can stay sane after that much hate.

i bullied mercilessly as a kid. Not just becuase i am super short and am just small in general -- my head is the size of a small cantalope --- but because i am extremely good looking.

They didn't like that. At all. Being normal size they did not like that girls would laugh at my jokes and would show attraction to me. I got punched in the stomach in the 6th grade by some greasy brown ape for getting an A+ on the Health Experiment. The cool Japanese teacher gave the class a project using chicken bones to recreation the human rib cage. The class was to use their ingenuity and imagination. So, I had my mother take me to the pet store to purchase a fishing tank air pump that I ended up attaching to two balloons in order to simulate artificial lungs being pumped with air in / out. The release valve was simply my finger. When the finger covered the valve hose, air from the fish tank pump would fill up the balloons with air like a breathing human lung. Take your finger off for air to release.

Everyone in the class was shocked by this. The other classmates used crayons and pencils to either draw stuff on the cardboard with glued chicken bones, or, they just had chicken bones arranged in a half ass scattered pattern.

I was always athletic and got a lot of attention from girls starting at a young age. But my natural focus and interest were always science and learning. After this project, the hottest girl in class was giving me 100% of her attention. A few days later this random greasy brown mexican spic comes up to me in class and punches me in the stomach as hard as he can. Out of breath for a good 20-30 seconds as I was totally off guard not expected that.

A month later I get surrounded out in the playground by 8 kids. The circle around me and start kicking the shit out of me. They kicked my legs until the muscles went numb and collapsed. I feel down and covered up. They all ran off. I went to stand up and could barely walk because my calf muscles felt like they were ripped off my bone.

That was the start of a long public school experience in shithole America.

Bullies are not great, and they make kids feel bad, but they are absolutely necessary. At least so far as bullying people for things they have the power to change in themselves. I think the benefits of bullying far outweigh its drawbacks. Usually in a healthy group of young people, they can tell the difference between a bully making fun of some kid for not brushing his teeth, or a total asshole making fun of a kid for being an orphan or some shit. The kids will stand up for the orphan, or whatever, they will bully the bully, and the bully will run home and cry to mama. Then everything will have worked itself out. At least that's the way it went when I was a child.

These days no matter what the dumbass kid is doing, like being a fucking stinky shit head, or running around being a fag, or a fat ass, no one calls them out on it, and they continue unchecked down that road until later in life, then get slapped with a huge reality check one day.

I was bullied and was a bully myself. One of the minor characters who wasn't at the bottom of the hierarch but close to it. I stopped feeling sorry for myself once I realized I'd bullied others and had thought nothing of it. I think bullying has become more of an issue simply because people of today have been taught to be submissive and passive while the school staff has been completely disarmed to punish kids when they get out of line. Bullying itself cannot ever be completely weeded out because it's just a natural state of adolescent humans to act that way.

I got the passive Gandhi bullshit from my christian parents who told me to always turn the other cheek and ignore the bullies. What experience taught me was that bullying only stops if you take action, because force is the only thing bullies respect.
