Look at it like this. Here is what it was really like:
Housing provided for slaves.
Food provided for slaves.
No education required.
If you were a hard worker you would be given a wife/husband.
You may get whipped, or beaten, but not just because it is Tuesday. This would only happen if you were disrespectful, and got out of line. So if you were chill, and hard working you could go no whippings.
Everything was provided for you.
Farm work was not an around the clock every day thing. There are planting times... Then there are harvesting times. So this meant a lot of time off. Sure on important days you may need to spend basically sun up to sun down busting ass, but rarely.
Most days were times of leisure where you could sit around singing spirituals, and eating watermelons.
That's just the field negros...
House negros had it even easier. Basically be a home maker, cooking taking care of kids, and cleaning.
Blacks today vote democrat anyways which is basically a welfare plantation... They should have buyers remorse over being freed.

You go be a slave. Imbecile.
I think they look down on it because they were OWNED by other people. With that said, I do wish black people knew more about slavery. They really are blank slates on the topic. Understanding this was the beginning of my "red pilling."

Being a slave in the south was better than being a sweat shop factory worker in the north.
Think about it from a purely economic perspective: a slave owner has a vested interested in keeping his slaves alive and working. A factory owner has no such interest. His workers are easily replaced at almost no cost to him. One of his workers gets sick, or gets maimed by a machine, that worker is fired and left to die. The slave owner enjoys no such luxury, as he is heavily invested in each INDIVIDUAL worker in his business. Hence, it's clear to see why - if you had to be dirt poor in the 19th century and wished not to die - it was better to be a slave.
Now, don't get me wrong: neither station was good. Indeed, each was surely quite awful. But being a slave was less awful.
