I see 3 problems with it.
1) it will be the new minimum wage and people will still feel broke because of the law of diminishing returns.
2) man needs purpose and without incentive to work, he becomes depressed
3) on a social level, it is giving up on progress. Rather than find new jobs and industries, we settle of a state of lackadaisical malaise.
Arguments?

I disagree with UBI but to get discussion going...
>1) it will be the new minimum wage and people will still feel broke because of the law of diminishing returns.
If the majority of people make minimum wage then the money will go farther. Luxury goods will continue to be insanely expensive, but pretty much every other distributor/manufacturer relies on economies of scale to stay in business. They need the general population buying their products.
>2) man needs purpose and without incentive to work, he becomes depressed
Not having to go to work every day would allow people to pursue their true interests and passions, whatever those might be.
>3) on a social level, it is giving up on progress. Rather than find new jobs and industries, we settle of a state of lackadaisical malaise.
Scientists would still be researching and inventing new things as most of them aren't motivated by money. As for the general populace, see #2.
Of course, #2 and #3 wouldn't work in reality. Humans, at least in the west, have been selected and conditioned to be worker bees who want nothing more than a 9-5 schedule and approved entertainment to keep them occupied until it's time to work again.
