I know that this may sound pretentious, but isn't this awesome, that something like this happened and not even a 100 years ago?
To this day there are alive people, who remember Nazi Germany and World War 2.
And I know, that WW1 was not that long before, but there is a special charm to the WW2, Hitler, Nazis etc. even if you despise them. It's pure history that is better than most war fiction.

I visited Nuremberg earlier this year and had a look at the rally grounds. It was quite surreal knowing what had happened there less than a 100 years ago and how different it looks today.
