they weren't just ordinary rice farmers. They were a professional army with state of the art equipment backed by Russia and China.
Also the US didnt lose. The south was not able to hold onto their country when the US pulled out.

That being said, The U.S military and the other western nations that took part never really lost a major ground engagement. It was a combination of declining public support due to increased media coverage and a lack of an overall objective for ending North Vietnamese resistance, preventing the military from doing what they needed to do.

The US military is exceptionally well trained (better than any other nation per average) and has the best tech.

US didn't fight a war of annihilation. They refused on humanitarian grounds to bomb the shit out of Hanoi early in the war, which would have ended it. The US hasn't been game to fight a war properly since they nuked Japan.

It's always retarded constraints if not outright interference by politicians. Fight a war but within these constraints. We tried to play up the body count because we were tactically victorious most of the time, but it didn't matter.

2 things:

The US army had low morale and was full of conscripts that didn't give a shit and therefore became bad soldiers. Public opinion meant they had to withdraw and hand the task over to the South Vietnamese forces that couldn't handle the job.

Meanwhile the Vietcong fucked them with guerrilla tactics that are impossible to fight against while the North Vietnamese were fighting them in a more conventional war fueled by Russia.

If the US people really cared, the war would have ended with a north and south vietnam.

Jesus christ how many times does this thread need to happen? I get its likely bait, but the US militarily absolutely destroyed not only those farmers, but NVA as well. Our political leaders were fucking cucks except for NIxon sometimes and didn't let our military do its job. Military would have ended the war in no time flat if allowed to fight without both hands tied behind its back. At this point in time, the military was largely uncucked, its "failure" in Vietnam was pretty much all because of politics. The military is somewhat incompetent, and mostly always has been. There are still by far the strongest on the planet though. The strength of our military hasn't been a problem since the 1800's and every subsequent fuck up has been pretty much 100% the result of the incompetence of political leaders and the divide caused by the anti-American left. Problem is, its been bad for so long and our demographics are in such a state that the military is now getting pretty cucked. It won't be long before it resembles the rest of this machine.
