Arab states to meet in Bahrain on Saturday to discuss Qatar
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain will meet in Manama on Saturday to discuss the latest developments on their blockade of Qatar, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said on Friday. The four Arab states cut ties with Qatar early last month, accusing it of backing terrorist groups, which Doha denies, and developing ties with Iran. In the two-day meeting, the four countries will press Qatar to comply with their demands, which include stopping interference in their internal affairs, the Egyptian statement said. The four countries added 18 more groups and individuals they say are linked to Qatar to their terrorist lists last week. (Reuters)

7,000 ISIS affiliates remain in Iraq - officials

The biggest problem with solar power is battery technology. To be perfectly frank, our modern battery tech is fucking shit, it's the thing that's holding up all our tech right now.

Not only do the batteries for solar panels need to be maintained and replaced all the time, they are full of rare earth metals, which are strip mined in massive hilltop destroying mining operations that devastate the land. That's where Lithium comes from you know.

With our current battery tech, you can't store power for use overnight. Also, since our electrical wires are shit, you can't transport the power very efficiently from place to place (maybe a couple hundred miles max), meaning you're stuck using the local power on site (so a sunlit region can't supply a rainy region).

So if you're using solar power, you're using a spotty high maintenance power source that is terrible for the environment. Basically, it's all kinds of fucked up right now. The tech needs to make major advances before it becomes viable.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:30 P.M.) – The Lebanese Army is set to commence their long-awaited offensive inside the Ras Ba’albak area in the next 72 hours, Al-Mustaqbal daily reported this morning, as cited by Naharnet online.

Citing senior military sources, Al-Mustaqbal claimed that the recent Lebanese Army reinforcements that poured into Al-Qa’a and Ras Ba’albak are preparing for “zero hour” in these areas, as they look to expel the Islamic State (ISIL) from the region.

“It falls within the framework of the army’s duties and role in the protection of borders and sovereignty,” stressed the Al-Mustaqbal source on the condition of anonymity.

The Al-Mustaqbal source claimed that Hezbollah will play no role in this upcoming battle, as this operation will be solely conducted by the Lebanese Army.

“However, the army is the sole entity that will wage the battle in the outskirts of al-Qaa and Ras Baalbek,” stressed the source.

The Islamic State is the primary terrorist group occupying this part of Lebanon and has been since the Summer of 2015.
