IDF breaks into RT Arabic’s Ramallah provider’s office
In the early hours of Saturday morning, IDF soldiers broke into the media complex of Palmedia, the leading broadcasting service provider in Palestine, whose clients includes RT’s Arabic bureau in the West Bank. The doors of some offices in Ramallah were broken down and searches conducted, RT Arabic’s executive producer reported. None of the RT staff were hurt.

The Palmedia building houses the offices of several news companies, such as Al-Quds, Al-Mayadin, France24, and Al-Manar.

Psychologists in CIA torture case to stand trial
Two former CIA contractors have been ordered to stand trial for taking part in alleged illegal torture practices. Psychologists Elmer Mitchell and John “Bruce” Jessen stood before US District Court Judge Justin Quakenbush in Spokane, Washington, on Friday and defended themselves against allegations that they should be held liable for the methods conducted on three former CIA detainees at a secret “black site” during the administration of former President George W. Bush. The judge set a trial date for September 5. The psychologists had previously asked the court to interview CIA agents to prove that they were just following orders, but that motion was denied on the grounds that questioning the agents would reveal important national security information. The CIA is covering the two men’s legal expenses for the case. (Bloomberg)

Macedonian, US troops start joint military exercise
Macedonian and US troops have started two weeks of joint military maneuvers in central Macedonia as part of the Balkan country's drive to join NATO. About 300 US soldiers with 120 military vehicles and tanks arrived on Friday from neighboring Bulgaria to participate in the “Dragoon Guardian 17” exercise that will run until August 10. They will be joined by some 100 Macedonian soldiers. Macedonia’s Defense Ministry says the main goal of the exercise is to strengthen military cooperation with the US and to show that the Macedonian army is compatible with NATO standards. Macedonia wants to join NATO but was blocked in 2008 by neighboring Greece, a member of the alliance, due to a long-running dispute over Macedonia’s official name. (AP)

Rome mayor demands emergency measures as water rationing looms
The mayor of Rome urged the government on Friday to intervene to prevent water rationing in the drought-hit Italian capital. Taps will run dry for up to eight hours a day from Monday for 1.5 million Romans after authorities told utility firm ACEA to stop withdrawing water from a nearby lake. Lake Bracciano is running low following weeks of only minimal rainfall and unusually high temperatures. “It would be unacceptable to deprive Rome of water,” Mayor Virginia Raggi, a member of the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement, said. “A state of emergency must be declared.” The center-left government said it was reviewing Raggi’s request and would make a decision in coming days. Arab states to meet in Bahrain on Saturday to discuss Qatar
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain will meet in Manama on Saturday to discuss the latest developments on their blockade of Qatar, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry said on Friday. The four Arab states cut ties with Qatar early last month, accusing it of backing terrorist groups, which Doha denies, and developing ties with Iran. In the two-day meeting, the four countries will press Qatar to comply with their demands, which include stopping interference in their internal affairs, the Egyptian statement said. The four countries added 18 more groups and individuals they say are linked to Qatar to their terrorist lists last week. (Reuters)

High-ranking Iraqi security officials say up to 7,000 Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) affiliates remain in Iraq after the fall of Mosul, where the group’s leader declared the self-styled caliphate three years ago. Three intelligence and defense officials also told AP there are an estimated 4,000 militants and 3,000 supporters who were employed by the group and received salaries. In Syria, there are up to another 7,000 IS militants and 5,000 supporters, they say. On July 10, Iraq’s Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared the liberation of Mosul, after nine months of highly destructive warfare. (AP)

but you have to think that at a given point solar is worthwhile. or is the maintenance cost that high? The benefit of solar power is that it can be built just about anywhere. The cost of setting up a panel is massively lower than the cost of building a reliable electrical network in the region. You can set up a couple panels and provide power for an entire African village like that.

solar panels maintenance cost are fucking high due to reliance on rare earth which rakes up the prices sky high
a solar panel also has to endure climate that affect its durability
in average a solar panel loses 10% of efficiency in first 20 years
then it's getting exponential
good luck paying for dem rare earth imports
nuclear and oil are cheaper because once the product is used it's "destroyed" (no more value)

The biggest problem with solar power is battery technology. To be perfectly frank, our modern battery tech is fucking shit, it's the thing that's holding up all our tech right now.

Not only do the batteries for solar panels need to be maintained and replaced all the time, they are full of rare earth metals, which are strip mined in massive hilltop destroying mining operations that devastate the land. That's where Lithium comes from you know.

With our current battery tech, you can't store power for use overnight. Also, since our electrical wires are shit, you can't transport the power very efficiently from place to place (maybe a couple hundred miles max), meaning you're stuck using the local power on site (so a sunlit region can't supply a rainy region).

So if you're using solar power, you're using a spotty high maintenance power source that is terrible for the environment. Basically, it's all kinds of fucked up right now. The tech needs to make major advances before it becomes viable.

Helium-3 isotopes is what you mean, and the basic gestalt is that we could build very efficient fusion reactors with them fairly easily (in comparison), but other types of fusion will also absolutely be viable in the forseeable future.

also >>135403447:
Be careful not to fall for the solar propaganda. While the actual process of creating electrical energy is definitely clean, the production and repair certainly is not. Its difficult to directly compare it to other means of power generation because it has different issues than say coal, where the biggest issue is the release of CO2 and smoke particles, whereas the production of solar panels is reliant on processes and materials that are insanely dirty in a directly toxical way.
Also dont believe anyone who tells you that solar energy is "renewable energy", because even though the sun is near limitless compared to human lifespans, the solar panels themselves are veery prone to breakdown and failure, and have to constantly be maintained, repaired and replaced, so the issues with manufacturing them are by no means one time deals.

They bombed trucks heading to al tanf on the road, they got "outsmarted" by SAA moving AROUND them and building a new desert border crossing further north.
They dont get any support coming through there from Iraq though because ISIS seems to be really really strong in that area on the Iraqi side.
That is the only thing that explains why the US sought not to block them off completely but saw that this was acceptable and would aid iranian influence to grow between Iraq and Syria.

>The poorly designed arrangement between Iran and the IAEA on Parchin not surprisingly failed
to resolve the issue. It also put the IAEA in a weak position to move forward on accessing the
Parchin site to resolve this issue, which includes making sense out of uranium particles detected
by environmental sampling at Parchin. The presence of these particles combined with all the
previous, suspicious site alterations is dramatic evidence that Iran conducted secret nuclear
weapons activities at Parchin, despite its on-going denials.

>Iran’s refusal to let the IAEA resolve Parchin issues or regularly visit military sites is a major
blemish on the JCPOA. It undermines any argument that the Iran deal is adequately verified.

>Lebanese Army to begin Ras Baalbak offensive in next 72 hours: report
BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:30 P.M.) – The Lebanese Army is set to commence their long-awaited offensive inside the Ras Ba’albak area in the next 72 hours, Al-Mustaqbal daily reported this morning, as cited by Naharnet online.

Citing senior military sources, Al-Mustaqbal claimed that the recent Lebanese Army reinforcements that poured into Al-Qa’a and Ras Ba’albak are preparing for “zero hour” in these areas, as they look to expel the Islamic State (ISIL) from the region.

“It falls within the framework of the army’s duties and role in the protection of borders and sovereignty,” stressed the Al-Mustaqbal source on the condition of anonymity.

The Al-Mustaqbal source claimed that Hezbollah will play no role in this upcoming battle, as this operation will be solely conducted by the Lebanese Army.

“However, the army is the sole entity that will wage the battle in the outskirts of al-Qaa and Ras Baalbek,” stressed the source.

The Islamic State is the primary terrorist group occupying this part of Lebanon and has been since the Summer of 2015.

>Syrian Army advances in Al-Sukhnah despite heavy resistance from ISIL
BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:15 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is steadily advancing at the western axis of Al-Sukhnah, despite heavy resistance from the Islamic State (ISIL) forces today.

Led by the 5th Corps and 18th Tank Division, the Syrian Arab Army has managed to make some headway west of Al-Sukhnah, capturing several points near the Al-Hayl Fields.

Once the remaining points west of Al-Sukhnah are captured, the Syrian Arab Army will make the choice whether or not to enter the city.

Similar to the Deir Hafer and Maskanah battles in east Aleppo, reports have surfaced that the Islamic State has withdrawn most of their forces from the city; this is likely due to the fact they want to reinforce the Deir Ezzor front before the Syrian Army reaches the province.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:35 P.M.) – The Al-Umari Brigade in southern Syria is no longer receiving weapons and ammunition from the U.S. military, the rebel group’s spokesman announced on Saturday, as cited by Smart News Agency.

While the Al-Umari Brigade no longer receives weapons and ammunition, the group’s spokesman did claim that the program to train rebels is still ongoing in Jordan.

However, the program is specifically geared to train rebel fighters to combat the Islamic State (ISIL) forces in Syria, not to fight the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies.

On Friday, one of the largest rebel factions in southern Syria, the Quraytayn Martyrs Brigade, announced that they were leaving the Anti-ISIL Coalition after the U.S. refused to support their battle against the Syrian government forces.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:25 P.M.) – Hezbollah captured over 100 square kilometers of territory during their week long offensive against the Al-Qaeda linked Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham militants in the ‘Arsal Barrens, the Lebanese group’s official media wing claimed on Saturday.

The Lebanese group’s media wing further added that Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham militants controlled less than five percent of the ‘Arsal Barrens before they accepted terms of surrender.

In the coming days, the remaining HTS militants and their families are expected to be transported from the ‘Arsal Barrens to the Idlib Governorate in northern Syria as part of the ceasefire deal with Hezbollah.
With the ‘Arsal Barrens cleared, the Lebanese Army is preparing to start their long-awaited offensive to clear the Qa’a Barrens and Ba’albak Highlands from the Islamic State (ISIL) terrorists occupying this territory near the Syrian border.
