Germany's military won World War 1. Undefeated. France was mutinizing and gone, Russia was gone, only Britian was still standing, and was very successfully blockading Germany, starving the country. Britain defeated Germany not militarily, but through starving it. The shitty Polish land was not seen as important enough for Britain to declare war against Germany and stick to it, which surprised Hitler and the OKW.

The Anschluss wasn't wanted by Hitler initially. Only after the near absolute majority of Austrians wanted to be part of a new German empire did he do it, peacefully. When Austria legally became part of the empire, their gold reserves and treasury became too.
