I actually read a good bit of the Quran recently. It was pretty interesting. I think I read about a third of the suras and there wasn't nearly as much call for murder as I expected. It was still there, of course, but it wasn't quite what I expected.

I think that the main reason is probably because of how much of the book focuses on women. there are all sorts of passages that talk about the rights that women have, and how they ought to be treated. Stuff that I just haven't seen in the Bible.
Of course Muhammad still portrays the man as the superior in all situations and actually sanctions the beating of women if they don't do as they're told by the man. And there's stuff about how it's better to marry a believing slave rather than an infidel free woman that make it clear that slavery is literally okay in that religion. The Quran is weird because it's seems feminist, but when you think about all of the limitations set for women by it, and the fact that they can never be the top wrung of the hierarchy it clearly isn't.

Also Muhammad claiming that the Quran as validation for prophethood is a weaksauce argument, and if it was true then everyone who wrote for a book in the Bible would be a prophet. The guy didn't even have any miracles.
