You don't have to sit on the fence on issues to be a centrist.

I always end up as centrist in political compass tests nto because I'm on the fence aboout things, but because I hold both left wing and right wing beliefs, which cancel each other out.

For example, I'm a big fan of Universal healthcare which is left wing, but I don't like spending public money on the arts, sports, or community projects, which is more right wing.
