The US goes from being the world's largest creditor to the world's largest debtor during Reagan's reign yet he is considered a great fiscal conservative President.
What did they mean by this?

reagan did increase the U.S. debt, however, 1) he did so as a statigic plan to cause the USSR to do the same; he knew they were weak and that (due to the bull market in the U.S.) we could spend more than the Russians could. think of it like this; if your worst enemy and you decided to jump out of a window to see who was tougher, and you jumped out of a second story building and he jumped out of the 20th, would you agree to it? sure. you .ay be hurt but he will be dead as a door nail. it was more of a military than a financial position and while , and in the long run it payed off because the USSR was bankrupt by the late 80s.....cutting taxes did in the short term cause budget deficits in the long run it led to a lasting bull market and the budget surpluses of the 90s.
