It seems that I visit any part of Mexico that isn't TJ or it's capital, and is relatively still within the boundaries of their feds and no the cartels, they're all pretty nice people and don't look like ugly natives. Mexican pride comes from some aspects of the culture itself (folklore like traditions, food etc), outside that and politically México has always been destined to fail as a state, it didn't even have a proper independence, it was just so the Catholic church could remain in power after the Cadiz constitution in Spain and it's been ups and downs (more downs than ups) since it became a country, people are also undisciplined and lazy specially the poor people in the country who also happen to be shitskins. It's complicated, but there needs to be an overhaul in our political system, our education (both scholar and in the family core), our media and the whole catholic issue as well. Too bad most of our country has already sold out to other countries and corporations. Mexicans are taught to be employees; you seldom see people trying to create their own businesses or companies. Since forever the idea of "I'm poor but I'm humble, hence I should be proud" has been romanticized and people prefer to be mediocre. What criminal practices? Why was Mexico so attractive to foreigners? I mentioned it several times already. They could get a max amount of profit, because they didn't even have to paid their workers. There was no goverment regulation, the law was forgotten. The average opinion of your local foreign capitalist that owned a estate was that ''they could generate more profit by working the person to dead, instead of feeding him. I agree that our history has been a bloodshed thanks to us and foreign intervention, what I don't agree with is that there's nothing be proud of, history has to be taught as objectively as possible, without that toxic thought that 'we were conquered', very common in schools. The fall of the first empire. Sure, the country was in shambles economically speaking, and that's why Iturbide doing diplomatic work to give us independence was the best outcome. The treaty was fair for both Mexico and Spain. Everyone was tired, and whether people nowadays agree or not with the monarchy (which btw was going to be moderate/constitutional) everyone at the time agreed and swore upon it. If I had the chance to go back in time and live a historic moment, I'd choose the entrance of the Three Guarantees army. There's a small narration of that day written by Juan de Dios Peza.

The fall of the empire was due to the congress plotting against Iturbide, and doing jackshit to write a constitution. I think they were the prototype of nowaday's Congress, lazy and selfish. Sadly, Iturbide was too much of a pacifist and his only action/mistake was to dissolve the congress, which gave them a chance to label him as a dictator and the rise of small armed groups against his empire. His desire to avoid unnecessary bloodshed lead to his fall. He had everything, the charm, the support yet his good intentions and congress betrayed him. There's a lot more to it, but that's the gist.

The reason everyone conspired against Iturbide is because he was an opportunist. He killed the "insurgentes" left and right and he only switched sides because the church told him to do so. You have to remember that the church was going to lose a lot of power thanks to Ferdinand VII, after he came back to power.
To be fair nobody liked him, that's why they kicked him the first moment they could.
