Why are we letting this monopoly silently destroy our local economies?

Invest in Amazon stock? Yes! Let's feed a corporation tons of money, enable them to destroy every business/job in our town, and crush any possibility of owning our own assets and creating generational wealth for our own families.

Walmart is cancer too. They are literally a wholesaling warehouse that sells directly to consumers instead of retailers. This should not be legal.

Amazon IS a monopoly and the only reason the public is so unaware is because Amazon in not visibly present. people see dozens of local stores closing, but can't see the cause of it with their own eyes. Imagine if every store in your area was rebranded as Amazon:Supermarket, Amazon:Electronics, Amazon:Bike shop, etc. There would be no doubt in Amazon being a monopoly and the people would be outraged. But, the fact that Amazon hides out of pain view in warehouses and is based online makes it hard to see the cause of the problem.

Before Amazon/Big box stores a small business owner (retail) could generate a personal income of $70K-Millions and hire 2-30+ employees, and purchase goods at wholesale from warehouses that also employed workers and had private owners. Now, most of that has been replaced by fewer and fewer $12/hr warehouse slaves.

A life of consumption. Depression. Isolation. Obesity. Atrophy. Hell on earth. Welcome to Idiocracy.
>>
Trump on (((Bezos)))-
"He thinks I'll go after him for antitrust," Trump said at the time. "Because he's got a huge antitrust problem because he's controlling so much, Amazon is controlling so much of what they are doing.

"He's using the Washington Post, which is peanuts, he's using that for political purposes to save Amazon in terms of taxes and in terms of antitrust."

Trump’s campaign later reiterated this narrative in a statement claiming that the Post was being used as political leverage so Amazon doesn’t “get sued for monopolistic tendencies that have led to the destruction of department stores and the retail industry.”

How is it a monopoly?
Nobody is forcing you to buy it through amazon.
If they can provide it at the lowest price, they've invested enough in the logistics chain to get it to you for the cheapest amount. If you can get it cheaper elsewhere, go buy it elsewhere
Same with Walmart
>>
>>135207037
This.

Why not open your own store and sell your shit cheaper op.
>>
>>135205002

OP is a jealous faggot, they do not have a monopoly they just sell their goods for cheaper.

Also they pay their employees better than retail cucks get paid. It is great pay? No

Still they pay better than the physical store retail cucks

Good. Let them all fucking die. In my country the retailers gouge consumers so fucking hard. You know retailers are fucking you without lube when it's cheaper to buy an item online, ship it to your country and pay the import tax and custom duties. Local shops put a 500% markup on shit they sell then they go crying on national TV when they have shit sales for christmas. They got so fucking desperate they tried to get the government to ban online shopping but the public backlash was so fucking hard they canceled the ban. Instead the government added a small "online tax" and were blown away at how much money they earned in a month. Far more than looking after retailers and collecting their share. Fuck small businesses. They can rot.

Our economy is propped up by a mountain of debt. The people own nothing. They don't own the car they drive, the house they live in, or even the clothes on their back in many cases. We are all pretending everything is ok, until the debt collector comes. Without our free money we are less than a third world country. Wait until they come, we will all either become enslaved or completely wiped off the planet.

Each spot went for over a grand and there were 8 spots. People couldn't alter anything in the image. They just sent a reference pic of their self insert fursona and that was it. >>
>>135219839
You are right about Silicon Valley, they are also a cancer to the economy. Their business models are so backwards and destructive in their nature. They are only able to survive through constant funding from investors and rarely break a true profit. It seems that often times the only way they can make money is through the destruction of industries, elimination of jobs, or implementation of technology used to systematically cut wages take power from employees. They constantly acquire and merge with competition and even 3rd party service providers, effectively syphoning power into less and less hands. 1 company can acquire 10 other smaller companies, replace their CEOs and with glorified managers and cut wages. It will be near impossible for employees to negotiate higher salaries because nobody in their building will even have the authority to make those changes.

As for my plan... I think redistribution of wealth is a terrible solution. Like I said, I think warehouses like Walmart, costco, etc. should not be allowed to sell directly to consumers. Acquisitions should be significantly limited and controlled by the state to encourage healthy competition and distribution of power. Conglomerates and corporations should be broken up and rent for retail made affordable for new entrants. Personally, I have my own small business in the print industry and I plan on growing it as much as I can in these turbulent times. That is how I plan to do my part.

I agree we need to stop Walmart and other warehouses as you call them. They are ugly and demoralize local communities as it dehumanizes everyone involved, the employees and the costumers. Do the Waltons shop at Walmart? Silicon Velley "innovates" by using technology (or technique if you've read The Technological Society) to increase efficiency at the expense of all the humans involved. Amazon has a no-tax monopoly. Through some form of collusion, there is a gentleman's agreement among a number of institutional holders of its stock to never require that profit be shown, in order to avoid paying any taxes.

Amazon actually loses money on everything they sell except cloud hosting services. They do this to put their competition out of business. This is what antitrust laws were created to prevent.

They killed those businesses and now make them sell on amazon until they replace them with their own inventory or their own in-house product. On top of that, they take a cut from your profit and you must sell merchandise at their already ridiculously low prices. I actually know and worked for people that had stores on Amazon. They all failed and lost a lost of money, I'm talking $200K down the drain. What happens is... you invest $$$ in your own inventory, compete with 10 other sellers at unsustainable prices, ship at your expense every time, until you begin to starve and have no choice but to sell off your inventory to the Amazon warehouse for pennies on the dollar. Then it's sorry sucker! Thanks for the free labor and practically free inventory!

Soon to be American.

I really don't care. Amazon is such a convenience, walmart too, that i truly couldn't care. The negative impact it has on the economy is only felt at the lowest levels.

And those levels are going to collapse into themselves soon, regardless of what we do to knock out the supports. The sooner it happens, the faster the restructuring can occur. Whether that shifts into information technology or scamming elderly wealthy people, who knows.

I just know i fucking hate people and they'd set me on fire for a loaf of bread given the slightest provocation.
>>
Amazon products are more expensive than going to the store and buying something. Amazon is typically more expensive than buying it from other sites with slower shipping.

So, if it's more expensive to buy on Amazon, how is Amazon pushing out other competitors in an antitrust manner? It's almost like the opposite of antitrust. Customers want to buy from Amazon because they provide the superior service despite the higher prices. It sounds more like you guys want the government to regulate Amazon, which is frankly the most ironic thing from you guys.
>>
>>135226943
>Low prices is oppressing me -waaah-
Jesus Christ dude, at least make an attempt to think critically. A new business with low prices and more convenience replacing old businesses with unnecessarily high prices IS A GOOD THING. It's part of what makes (somewhat) free market capitalism superior to whatever bullshit economic system you support.
>>

You don't get it.

I go into an ACE Hardware and buy a shovel or a rake. Good possibility I picked up a piece of shit that's going to break on me. It's hard to find good tools these days.

I go onto Amazon, I can buy a shovel or a rake that has ten thousand 5 star reviews, giving me some kind of assurance that it's probably not a complete piece of shit.

Electronics. Tools. FOOD.

Why would I go chance it in a brick and mortar store? Do you think the people at the brick and mortar stores even know what the fuck they're selling?

Go into an Ace Hardware and ask for their highest rated shovel. Dude is going to look at you like you're some kinda fruitcake.

Amazon is the future. It's cheaper. More efficient. You're more likely to get something you actually like. And you get free shipping.

The downside is that it's killing human interaction, killing small towns, and neets literally don't ever, ever, need to leave the house cause they can find everything they could ever hope to want on Amazon.

With free shipping.

>>
>>135207479
We're not forced to which makes it more insidiousness. It plays on peoples' laziness. Why get up and waste time and gas going to the store when you can just go to Amazon, click a few things and your stuff arrives a few days later? Even worse, look at how they purchased Whole Foods because now they're getting into grocery delivery. Combine that with Prime same-day delivery and guess what? You don't even need to go to your grocery store, just sit in your computer chair and order your Cheetos, Poptarts and Dr. Pepper and let the nice Amazon driver deliver it to your door later that day.

Convenience doesn't force you to use one product or the other but it sure does make the choice not much of a choice at all. Combine that with the move to non-physical money (debit cards, credit cards, etc.) and stuff like one-click payment which makes it even easier for the average person to just buy stuff without thinking and blowing through money or putting them deeper into debt. It's an absolutely wretched state that kills businesses and enables torpor.

Amazon is massive but it won't be able to beat the supermarket chains. That would require huge domestic supply chains, like Walmart, Amazon doesn't have that yet. Basically Amazon requires UPS, FedEx and the USPS to be its supply chain.

This is the only reason why Walmart still exists, and most grocery chains will likely survive Amazon's moves into the space although their margins could fall significantly.

>Why would I go chance it in a brick and mortar store? Do you think the people at the brick and mortar stores even know what the fuck they're selling?

Whole post is spot-on. There was a time back in the day when you went to K-Mart or outlet stores for the very cheap merchandise. Now you go to any brick & mortar for that same (cheap) quality but pay old Macy's prices from back when they WERE quality.
Selection? Good luck. Quality, likewise. Lucky if the shit don't fall apart after a few uses. And don't get me started on being harassed by cashiers to get their "card" because data mining is actually more profitable to these corps than the crap they sell.

Excellent question. There was a time in America when monopolies were illegal. And it is not just Amazon. Google - how can a search engine company now have so many branches into other areas? Cars, really?? They are purposely destroying all the classic, original American businesses (JCPenney's, Wooworths, Sears, etc.) so that they can take over with their handful of businesses which will control everything.

so what are you saying are they getting giant tax breaks or something? what loopholes are amazon and Walmart using to have the advantage? I know amazon *usedto hve no tax, but now they pay tax, Walmart has always paid tax, they pay their employees just as much as other retailers: I mean, Walmart is just big...and I know what you're going to say "Walmart uses china." well, which china? What's the real issue here? Chinese exploitation or Walmart? Walmart doesn't completely sell all Chinese products right? I think the actual issue here is a: we need better restrictions on china (mainland china, not Taiwan) which trump is doing: and we need to have online retailers pay taxes: because once they do, everything will be the *actual price. and they won't be able to compete.you know what I bet is connected to paying taxes on the internet? n e t n e u t r a l I t y. equal data, eequal tax. amazon gets the benefits of small business tax because online retailers get a tax break which is how what you buy online is cheaper.

That doesn't sound like a lot but when you have some 30 items in your cart and that 50 cents is 15-25% of the cost, it's fucking absurd.
>>
>>135208492
There's no cost of entry to make an online "business", but you're going to realize you make more money being a part of Amazon instead of being off on your own.
But yeah if there's a clear need from consumers for your product and they're excited, sure you can. Comparing that to the trillions of a Mars rocket is absurd

Food and essentialls are inflated in price in Amazon.

Clothing is hardly a good deal on Amazon if you aren't buying name brand stuff.

Really, Amazon only offers a good deal on books, movies, gadgets, and the like and most of the time ebay offers those cheaper if you don't mind waiting a few days for the delivery.

Amazon is handy, but it is hardly a juggernaut of savings that people make it out to be.

But, they did what they set out to do - kill off about 50% of small to medium online competitors in their war with Wal-Mart, the rest of us have been scraping up the leftover bits, but I expect maybe 2 years before I'll fold at the rate things are going just because shipping costs, business taxes, employee costs, and general overhead keep going up and I'm not making a fucking dime more now than I did 5 years ago.
