I thought the Russia was a prime example for works of art done for things other than religion(even if it was part of communism).

A better question would be why don't atheists make many great and organised works of art in the painting, sculptor and architecture?
Well maybe because Atheism lost the idea of coming together as a community.

Because they are self-centered.
Art requires inspiration and devotion.

Because to make good art you have to have inspiration. Inspiration is of a spiritual nature, which at least modern "naturalist" atheist completely lack.
