This was at the Ohio State Fair, which is a major event every year in Columbus. This is about as close as Ohio ever gets to a major happening, since accidents involving farm equipment don't concern the libtards which control all of our news outlets.

Really though, rides are at these fairs for little reason other than to keep wiggers and younger kids away from the agricultural stuff where farmers meet to do farmer stuff.

Even though the dindu hit the emergency stop when the ride was going full speed, the metal should not have sheared off the way it did. I suspect their was significant rusting on the inside of the metal not visible. Paint on the outside made the ride look sound but moisture inside rusted the supports from the inside out.

Anyway the accident has nothing to do with the operator. The operator starts the ride, increases speed, decrease speed, repeat, decreases speed way down, stops the ride.

The accident happened because the equipment fell apart. It either wasnt assembled correctly, or was too worn out, etc. The operator did not cause the accident. Cranking the ride speed up does not cause this. And the emergency stop is for just that: stopping in the case of emergencies. He hit the emergency stop after the ride had already fallen apart.

I worked at Cedar Point out of high school, and I knew someone who did maintenance on roller coasters throughout the country, from state fairs to big name roller coasters. I was just the guy who hit buttons and spoke over the PA system in that fake excited voice all day.

I never asked him too much about it but he said the big difference between big theme parks like Universal or Disneyland, and state fairs, is that the bigger name theme parks are more structurally sound. In that, they have better support built underneath them, while also having more funds for maintenance and upkeep than a state fair, which is key.

He also mentioned big theme parks have the money to bring in technicians and staff to upkeep their rides and ensure they're in good working order, and most theme parks have no problem shutting down a few rides to replace a few hydraulic lines. They'd rather a customer have a bad experience when their favorite rides are down, then have the media swarm them after a death or hospitalization. Hell, Cedar Point mapped out where we keep private ambulances and EMS workers, as well as doctors offices, throughout the park.

These giant amusement park rides are really simple and easy to assemble. They have a simple checklist and they run the rides a few times to ensure they work, then they let Cletus, who never graduated middle school, start pushing buttons. They usually pay a professional at the end of the fair to examine the rides and ensure they're good, cause then they have the money to pay for it.

TL:DR Big theme parks are as safe as a giant machine exposed to the elements can reasonably get, and have experts on staff examining them if not daily, every other day.

Fairs just make sure they operate after being set up, and have someone look over the ride after the event is over.

Not a bad theory. A lot of these rides are made in Germany and possibly the assumed weight of the riders is less than what is encountered at these types of fairs. Add to that an inexperienced operator and, well, you know.

you need to add a ton of corrosion and probably subpar assembly. I'll have to admit though, it is basic procedures in germany to replace parts in schedules and it is assumed that replacement also happens. The constructions and machines aren't as durable as they could be since it's assumed it is better cost to use if you replace them every now and then and they can be cheaper and otherwise have properties that you would have to sacrifice. They should be designed different if you tried to keep them safe without the scheduled maintenance AND discarding of old parts
