EUfag here.
I recently found out that US congress does not have a term limit. How come? Won't the whole 'draining the swamp' bit be easily fixed by passing a single law that fixes this obvious oversight, and immediately removes everyone from it who's been in for, say, more than 8 years? I'm aware that the law will have to pass through congress, and that they'll kill it; But here's the kicker -- what if Trump's administration required everyone that voted 'no' to make a public statement to the American people about why keeping the same old fucks occupying all the good seats is in their best interest? -- and promptly arrest them for treason.
I'm not hugely into politics and I can guess that the real reason this doesn't happen is (((pretty obvious))), but... Wouldn't it be the darnedest thing, to see them trying to weasel their way into spinning the current 'swamp' situation as a good thing?
The 'swamp' metaphor is too fitting as a swamp forms when a water-source dries up and the remaining water turns to filth due to no new water coming in, and no old water flowing out. I genuinely do hope that the God-emperor keeps his word on this issue!

Congressional term limits was raised as a constitutional amendment years ago, in the aftermath of the 1994 "revolution" but it went nowhere, as you might expect.
IIRC some states imposed their own term limits but the courts struck them down.

In general though, Trump has been trying to appease the republicans, because if he goes hard on term limits, they will all oppose him, but the people will love it.
Tldr Hopefully trump fights for it in a year or two.

IN '96 there was a big push for term limits. Many congress critters were elected, but the push is a little self-defeating because, well, they kept their promise to limit their own term.
