EU farmers ask EU to abandon EU milk quotas

2 years later the milk price drops and the EU is awash with milk. EU buys up milk in desperate move to keep EU milk prices at a somewhat sustainable level for farmers - EU drowns in milk powder that no one wants.

Why do we hate the free market when it comes to agribusiness? Why do we support farmers with 50 billion in agribusiness subsidies and open market milk purchases to keep prices high?
>>
>>135121767
>Why do we hate the free market when it comes to agribusiness?

Because people will bash in the politician's skulls if they go hungry.
>>
>>135121767
This is what happens when government interferes with bussiness. First they start with a misguided attempt to "save" farmers from going broke. This results in an unecessary amount of framers. Next they try to fix their mistakes. Now 10x as many broke farmers as there would have been without government intervention.
>>
>>135121767
Farmers are literally rural and suburban retards. The problem is that we rely on them for our food, so we can't just let them fuck everyone else over because of their stupidity.

They need to have their hands held and told what to do.
>>
>>135124681
>The problem is that we rely on them for our food, so we can't just let them fuck everyone else over because of their stupidity.
We city folk should find a way to not need farmers, that way we can convert the rural regions into cities.

No idea.
We end up with so much corn that they turn it into liquid sugar and pump everything else full of it.Which in turn kills 3 million people per year via diabetes and other health events secondary to obesity.
Also, HFCS is literally cancer fuel. It's the most bio-available energy to cancer. Overpayed farmers making too much corn triggers me

Not really, europe subsidizes farming. No third world country can really compete with European prices. Africans are eating European chicken, because it's cheaper than native chicken. And this goes for alot more produce.
>>

Socialism is a nice idea for small communities or tiny nations perhaps where the ideas wouldn't launch everyone into poverty, same with left libertarianism, might be cool for a small group on some island somewhere

Eating a fuckload of sugar and starch is a choice, especially with all the health culture that has been prevalent in the past decade. If you're getting diabetes from your diet it's because you're poor, uncultured and stupid.

>>
>>135121767
because (with notable exception Romania and other small scale manufacturers spread throughout EU) most milk is "made" in a factory.

By that I mean trhe cows are fixed in position fed whatever shit is cheapest and then milk is collected. Here most large farm still regularly pasture their cows feed them grass alfalfa and other stuff and small time farmers sell their milk to processing plants(at very low prices) and increasingly on the open market directly to consumers as dairy and raw milk.(expect a crackdown on that probably oy vey goy it's dangerous).

It's why most milk tastes like chalk,it's literally white instead of having a slight hue to it bc of the micronutrients in the grass(it's where the term milky white came from only goat milk is pure white afaik)

It didn't used to be like this, esp in the former Ostblock practices where similar to that of Romania's although not as extensive.

I figured shit was going down when I say on Lidl refrigerated(not uht) milk that used to be made here sourced from Hungary and Poland ,respectively.
Now I live near the Black Sea,and this milk was the cheapest I've seen anywhere it wouldn't make sense financially . They still had Romanian milk in bottles at like 3 eurocents more
tldr:it's a quality not a quantity issue, the subsidies and gerneral corporatism pushed manufacturers for volume production and destroyed small scale manuf throughout Europe

Farms run themselves nowadays, just have to sit in your tractor a few times a year with a cup of tea and a magazine or listen to the radio while your machinery works by itself.

I'm a farmer. I have to imagine it's because you pretty much have to be born into it too do it. The machinery costs are a half million dollars per machine. The land cost is huge. The work is seasonal. We can't just decide to not pay our bills anymore and grow less. The grain prices are pretty much what they were in the 70s, all of our input costs have went up about 500 percent since then. We also don't use illegals and 3 of us do 4000 acres. So it's not like we have this gigantic swarm of People. We try to be as cost effective as humanly possible.

farmers are the most fucking entitled cunts on the fucking planet, the just hop around from crop to crop or product to product year by year depending on what they think will make them the most money, all the fucking refits and equipment is paid for with grants and subsidies and tax breaks, and then the price drops because of over-production, they blame the people giving them the free money and then start blocking roads and supermarkets with tractors and being total fucking shitcunts and inconveniencing normal people.

I can't wait for the day when everything is grown and harvested hydroponically by robots and all these farmers find out what it's like not to be paid well above market rates for their products or just be handed £500k to start farming the latest fad crop.

this is true desu.

New members of EU had superior quality food production after some investments a decade ago, but frogs and krauts wanted to have a cookie and eat a cookie. Old EU members are ahead in terms of advanced, high tech products, and the limits in food production were introduced because Poland, Czechs and other counties that joined later were actually BTFO'ing old states agriculture. Less supply means higher prices, so lazy Pierre and Hans can still sell thier products while Paweł, Bogomil or Tomáš has to limit their production because of (((reasons)))
>>
Well it sure would have been (((conventient))) if Russia had relied on cheap imports instead of having independent agriculture.

There are farmers who do not focus on animals but on crops and if they go "organic" they even end up being decent people who get little in terms of gov assistencd, but there are few of those idealists.

Why do we WANT the milk prices to remain high? Don't we want food prices to be as low as they possibly can be? If this drives some farmers out of business, then so be it. This is just like outlawing Uber because taxis can't compete.
>>
>>135125638
>The entire left is filled with fucktards that honestly believe that without their laws we wouldn't have ever improved work conditions by choice

We did improve work conditions by choice. We CHOSE to pass laws to improve them. Do you really think businesses would do anything that wouldn't make them more money if they could? Do you really think there wouldn't always be a subhuman populace willing to take any conditions and shitty pay? There were literal riots in America, private security forces were sent to break up Unions, armed revolutions in mining towns.
>>
>>135124640
This. You waste money on them making milk, you buy it. Of course the problem is much more complex than this when you're trying to keep a standard of living for people, and it includes availability of milk.
Idk how this problem should have been solved, I'm just pointing out this was obviously a wrong approach.
>>
>>135129397
>yet it(China) is NZs largest export market for milk
True enough, but the amount of milk produced by NZ, is only a fraction of what the whole EU produces - on a demand that isn't there, for a market that they haven't established themselves in like NZ. State-directed economy at its worst.

Ever heard of voters? Farmers vote. Taxi drivers vote. Politicians don't act in the best interest of the whole population, but in the best interest or certain small groups.

Because farmers won't have money for grass to feed the cows, so they will sell some for meat and will produce less milk next year. It's impossible to find bakers here, because they get paid dogshit, but if bread stopped being 50 cents and rolls being 5 cents, everyone would riot

They are perfectly fine buying 5 liters of coke a day, 100 bucks on gasoline a month, an arm and leg for a pack of smokes or dropping a grand on the new iphone day 1, but OY VEY milk and bread costs a bit more, we must riot and burn cars!

>Why do we hate the free market when it comes to agribusiness? Why do we support farmers with 50 billion in agribusiness subsidies and open market milk purchases to keep prices high?

The actual reason is because it's considered unacceptable to be wholly reliant on foreign imports for foodstuffs, and the infrastructure must continue to be maintained in case of war.

The same policies are often applied towards steel industry.

Here in the states they mostly subsidize the large conglomerate farms and bought out the smaller ones, so they could better control the industry. Now that we got all these illegal aliens coming in it drives down the prices and labor cost making it even harder for small farms to operate.

This. If they leave it to the free market you can have a war, natural disasters or other man made disasters that can fuck up the supply and distribution of food to the world markets.

Now if you're a net importer of food and your agricultural industry is almost non-existent, because it was undercut by the competition, you'll have shortages of food. The free market will eventually fix it, because it will be profitable to grow food again, its just that some of you may have to die before we get it back going.
>>
>>135124266
All the responses to this are retarded. Did you people somehow miss that the politicians are keeping prices high and the free market would lower them?

Quotas have been abandoned in 2015, Esti. This is why they are now spraying the EU buildings with tons of milk powder... as a result of the end of the quotas, the milk prices have fallen. You are allowed and encouraged to export the milk, but even Russia and China don't want enough.

I doubt there are sanctions on milk exports to Russia. Maybe Russia put sanctions on Esti disallowing milk exports to Russia?

That happened before 2015 I think. They literally had to dump loads of milk into the sewers.

The sanctions help Russia more than anyone else, instead of buying they now produce, which is a good thing for them and bad for Baltics.

>>I hate milk farmers, bunch of retards.

Dairy farms are responsible for most of the bullshit regulations in the US. They go for the maximum number of cows without regard for whether or not they can deal with the manure then proceed to just dump the shit wherever they want sometimes into Creeks and streams then when they get regulated they cry and moan and expect the rest of agriculture to come stick up for them.
They have a lot of political pull that gets them special treatment in the farm bill.

The dairyman cries out in pain as he strikes you.

only 50bn? Draghi pumpes this much out of thin air in a couple of months to keep phe ponzi going and it goes to bankers and stockmarket and to prop USA and Japs. They do it in turns, currency war is a misnomer it's an effort in concert not a conflict. As long as everybody does it there is a perception of no problem at all.

The answer is internal stability and feeding those who can't into farming (you know what I mean) for whatever reason. It's bad all around but they can't allow fluctuation in price which would result because of unstable financial system. So gros profit for farmers is subsidised and rock stable, the market price does not matter in proportion to subsidy. And since the price matters not so much the structure and extent of production is more stable as opposed to the alternative. If only we didn't have fradulent fractional reserve banking, if only people could understand what it actually means...

>then proceed to just dump the shit wherever they want
top kek, we kinda have similiar things here. They tend to spread the manure on any land that they own, despite not even harvesting hay from it. We have this little patch of land nearby, which is just grass, in the middle of the city. Even gets used as a non-official dogpark and such. Every now and then, the farmer comes along, and dumps a load of liquid shit onto it, saturating the surrounding mile or so in the stench of cowshit. I'm kinda surprised no-one pulled him into the courtroom over it yet.
