So I was pretty high in my back yard earlier and watched a few satellites pass by, and kept wondering why they would disappear after going across 3/4 of the horizon.
So I did a little thinking about how the angles change based on distance between linear and nonlinear vectors, and determined that we can still see stars below the point of disappearance of a satellite if and only if the earth is round. I drew a sketch of what I'm saying.
