We have a big deployment (either MEU or Combat)? Get ready for long hours of training or training with the infantry if you're tanks or AAVs like me, also if you're mechanized expect long hours of maintenance with some hazing sprinkled in. You can also expect to be on training operations for more than a week, this will involve a lot of sleeping under the stars or rain, rifle or whatever weapon you specialize in range, patrols, movements will AAVs or Helos, live fire courses, standing firewatch and hikes, a whole lot of hikes. Then there's Thursdays where the entire night is devoted to deep cleaning your room until its deemed satisfactory, as a boot however it is never satisfactory.

Then you'll have weeks where there's nothing to do, either a lull in training or you just got back from deployment, its usually spent with friends at the barracks, drinking, smoking, joking and generally having a good time or go out in town to try and get laid with the local whores. This, in my opinion at least, is the best part of the military, hanging out and having a good time with your friends

Now is a good time to join lads, after Trump took office a fuck ton of jobs opened up. They did an internal call for thousands of soldiers so recruiters are stepping up the pace.

Heres some advice, it sucks knobs. You'll hate a lot of it, and have periods of no fun. Yet, the benifits far out weigh the pain you'll endure.

Obviously you have the GI bill, medical care, and Vet benifits but you also get:

>Brothers for life, seriously you will have the tightest friends of your life
>Weapons training
>Map skills
>Basic first aid
>Mechanical, Computer, and other such skills and certifications (depending on job)
>See a lot of the US/World on government dime
>Learn some to embrace the suck
>Build muscle and overall fitness.

More stuff as well. Plus, because the gov pays most of your housing, clothes, ect you end up with a lot of money that you can spend on whatever. My recommendation is to do 4 years, if its not for you then at least you get tje experience, benifits, and knowledge to use in civvie world.

Not a recruiter. My family scroll records of family military history as going as far back as the Civil War (though, likely further back than that, sadly few records). Most ended up war heroes of various levels and fame.

Service runs in the blood and family. Its an interesting fact that the military is slowly consolidating into a few families across the US will long traditions of service. It was a point a while ago about how having a small pool of familes providing troops would lead to a military out of touch with civvies. Thats why recruiters are so uppity about snagging prospects from outside areas.

Computers. Anything with computers, the certifications you get to work on military computers is worth a lot in the civillian world. The AF has a lot of computer and tech to sign up for.

Also anything involving mechanics if you are not a techy. Rotary repair, aircraft mechanic, any of that.
