Basically all of the people in this picture were probably really into some non-pop genre in high school. I know because I was really into metal in high school, but there weren't a lot of other metalheads in my high school so I hung out with the emo/scene kids because they were the most accepting ones. They all basically remained hardcore faggots after high school. The styles changed a little, but it's more or less the same. I can tell you exactly what happened to Occupy Wall Street based on firsthand experience. It started out fine and it was primarily Tea Party types taking part in it.
Then I started hearing from a lot of my lefty friends that they had gotten letters in the mail offering them money to come take part in Occupy Wall Street.
