He also wanted to make Austria a client state, but Hitler took them and he was salty about that.
Anyway, he was so butthurt about how Hitler was doing tons of shit without telling him, that he decided to invade Greece to give Hitler a taste of his own medicine, unfortunately we all know how that went.

was a literal former communist who fucked up by invading greece and somehow lost to them, and not only that, alienated the dictator metaxis who was basically a fascist himself and thus put greece in the ally camp.

Mussolini was a god tier politician-- if you can even call him that. The problem is he was the one decent person Italy has seen in 500 years, and all other Italians he had to work with were absolute trash.
