Religion is about morals and values, not believing in a higher power. Religion was invented to control society, not people. Keeping people productive, in line, stopping degeneracy, keeping the city clean and helping eachother because you are family. Religion strengthens nations. Humans are tribal and will always treat their tribe nicer. So you get a country with stronger trust, bonds, nationalism, etc. The problem is children, dumb people, and working class people with no time to put great thought into things like this, do not understand this.

So what do you do to maintain the country? You rely on belief. If someone believes in God, they will follow the morals and standards your religion has set forth, they will fight for your side, they will uphold your society's rules. It may seem a little like mind control propaganda, and it sort of is, but it is very helpful and even necessary, I would say.
You should support Christianity even if you don't believe in God. If the bonds are strong enough within your country, there would be less violence, theft, lying politicians, etc, because why would you intentionally hurt your own family. You wouldn't need to do shit like gun control, hate speech regulation, taking away people's freedom.

You speak of a small group dominating everyone, but priests aren't rich, they don't control anything, they are respected in their community as wise and/or leaders. If you consider respect=power, than yeah maybe some truth to it, but it is not wielded in a negative way. the followers are not being taken advantage of, because the goals of christianity are good for society, so it makes sense for the people to support it.

This is false. Yes The Church had alot of temporal (soft) power but Christianity was unique in that "The Church" and "Goverment" were fundamentally seperate institutions. There is no comparison to how Roman Paganism, islam, or hinduism have functioned as part of goverment. anything historically its been monarchs constantly trying to use hard power over the church. See any controversy involving appointment of bishops.

Most governments in Europe had a state sanctioned church. The Anglican church in Britain, the Russian Orthodox church, the Roman Catholic church in France....etc

Religion helps those who cannot help themselves. It gives lesser people a reason to live. It isn't bad to not be self driven and take from the religious texts, but most modern people are learning that it doesn't matter and they should really just focus on kicking the Muslims out of our Europe and America and send them back to Africa.
