I went to Romania last year and it was very nice (and cheap as hell). Stayed at 4-5 star hotels, very clean, took train to Sinaya and saw the castle.....the capital was was a mix of old soviet bloc buildings and then you'd stumble upon an area that was super old buildings and cathedrals.
