Ukraine had the potential to become an incredibly powerful, rich country. They had nukes, all kinds of industry, educated specialists for all spheres, ties with giant markets of ex-USSR and USSR's allies, they had bloody nukes and bombers ready to deliver them. They had... Absolutely everything needed to become an exceptional state.
And instead of that they handed over their nukes for an unsigned protection agreement and cut up their nuclear bombers for 1mln$ a piece.

Thing is, Chechens and Russians, Tuvians and Uzbeks, etc, don't really mix. Here people have a tendency of sticking to their own, mostly because they live among their own. Moscow and Saint Petersburg are the exceptions to that rule because they're the cities of big money. Everywhere else, a woman who marries a Chechen or a Tatar with legitimate brown Tatar looks will be called 'inkbottle' to the face, if it took place in a more rural area.
As for replacement rates, I can't say for sure. Situation is just too unstable to say for sure, but ideally, we will have our economy strengthten. With the property prices dropping, hopefully starting a family will be more easy, and the population will rise. I can say that there's definitely far more children nowadays than there were in, say, 2009, and for obvious reasons.

Right now Ukraine is not getting assistance from the EU or NATO and are forced to deal with their separatist regions by themselves.
As long as Ukraine remains economically and militarily weak (and I don't see many chances for them to recover), the option to integrate Ukraine later either through military or economic means remains.

I think Russia is recovering and it was doing so good the west especially America tried to get in the way because they can't allow a strong Russia. They want Russia from the 90's back. I have visited st.Petersburg in 2016 summer and it was a white haven. Probably the most European city we have in the world. I wish I visited Moscow so I could see how that was as well but oh well.
