They know and don't care that the actually wealthy have the ability to move their wealth around VERY EASILY when it isn't directly tied to something like land, and it's almost impossible for governments to stop them from doing it. They don't care about wealth or wealth inequality, they care about CONTROL. Who cares if the richest people flee? The remaining 99% - including the middle classes whom they actually, ACTIVELY despise, will be under their thumb.

The real wealthy are just fine with that, too, because it doesn't affect them. Why do you think Sillicon Valley types like Thiel are buying up huge tracts of New Zealand? They'll be gone the second shit gets dangerous. But if they don't get too dangerous, these inane socialist schemes actually protect them.
