Not sure if this is /pol/ related or not but...

I recently came into possession of 400 acres of land in Nevada.

Im a botanist in my working life and decided to do something silly.....

Ive planted several hundred Giant Sequoia's on my land...

I planted my own "california redwood forest"

They are still little guys but when im about to die. I will get to die in my own personal redwood forest.

I plan to build a cabin in my personal redwood forest and when I retire I will tend to my trees and my fruit trees and gardens and hunt and be self sufficient.

I dont know why Im even doing this but I just always thought it would be super rad to have my own forest and so why not go with the big guys who get up to 300 feet.

Maybe ill be famous in the future
The only people who know ive done this are you guys and I have no intentions of telling anyone what I have or done.

Life is strange anon
why not just do shit that sounds fun
>>
>>134814151
this is actually pretty cool if true, but I question that they'll survive in this soil with like no nutrients n shit? idk, you're the botanist.

it's actually highly specific to the variety. most of the large Timber varieties that you're referring to only put off new culms once in the beginning of Spring . it takes the entire growing season for them to harden enough to become actually winter Hardy. so while they will grow several meters in height a day they will only spread out once a year.

I think it's adorable how in love you're with your gf to think that is anything impressive,

that, or you hate her.

If you guys wanna do some geurrila farming

Get clay balls and stuff the, full of tree seeds.

Throw a fuck ton of them around all over the place

In 20 years enjoy your new forest that you planted like a dickhead all over the place.

I used to live in the deep southwest and the locals killed off all of the mesquite trees so I made over 5000 seed bombs filled with mesquite tree seeds

Threw those fuckers every where and on all the trails.

I brought em back senpai

Shit was pretty rad.

Threw it in a lot of people's yards haha
>>
>>134814151
I always wanted to do the same but with oak. You are good guy anon.
>>
>>134814151
I have the same dream. I have already started a small self sustaining garden on Hawaii island, near Waipio.

Anon, can I help you manage your land, build on it and help create subsistence farm? I am proficient at it, am a carpenter/woodworker already, etc

I can send you a resume if you like.
>>
>>134830017
No I want to die alone with my trees like dick proenneke

Thanks though
>>
>>134814151
When the government eventually finds out you did this without the proper tree permits and land management studies they will make you take them all down and fine you for the trouble you caused.

Or they may just wait till you are too old to fight them, seize all your assets and sell the wood to the highest bidder.

34 this year

I did a lot of seed bombing in my twenties in abandoned places for fun.

Never been a hippy or a lib but plants are my passion.

You could make seed bombs take them to where "urban youth" live and throw wildflower and tree seed bombs all over the place.

Those people don't do maintenance so it doesn't take long until nogville is covered in trees and flowers.

Seed bombing ghettos is hilarious.

Nature eventually causes to much destruction to the ghetto infrastructure and all of the "youths" leave and nature reclaims the ghetto

Mushrooms can break concrete anons.

All it would take is 100 dickheads in Detroit throwing thousands of seed bombs and before you know it abandoned Detroit would become wilderness.

At least Detroit could be restarted after nature reclaims it

I have a new business plan.
>>
>>134816821
So you saying we wuz giant lumber jacks and shit?
>>
>>134828239
Wrong. Red woods need tremendous water. They get a lot from their tap root, but they still need plenty more. If he had enough irrigation, the trees could grow. But, to make it to 100+ feet tall, the tree relies on its natively humid weather to provide the rest of its saturation through its leaves.
>>

i also want to attempt to grow bristlecone pine

>>
>>134832137
I suppose you could make substrates into balls coat them with claw and inject the spores inside and toss them.

Throw them all over cow pasture or dank humid places.

You could totally make mushroom bombs
>>

What's next for OP?
Write a book?
Trees suck big time. Ugh.
>>
>>134831858
I've seen a plantation of 50+ m tall, 50 year old redwood trees near Ballarat here in Australia in a region which only gets 680mm annual rainfall, they grew so well because of a nearby stream. Provided that there is enough water available and suitable soil they grow well

Not to mention that OP is growing Sequoidendron, which is generally a hardier species which tolerates a wider range of climatic and soil conditions, not Sequoia which is a more fussy species
>>
>>134832437
Could a bamboo bomb be made? What is the fastest growing most annoying to remove species?

Uhh, can I invest in the forest opportunity.

We could do really cool things, like mass produced 3d printed hovels outside the forest and a large communal area. It could be for people who telecommute and we could run all the shops and shit and keep all of their money.
>>

being self sufficient and growinf vegetables and fruit is about the most redpilled thing you can do. Everytime i see a green yard full of useless grass the wasted potential annoys me. It's pure vanity, in a "christian nation" no less, well i guess its not really christian. anyways, yeah cultivating foodstuffs and trees is very good.

It's also the fact that there was charcoal buried several feet down over a huge area, which shows clear intent...

When I was in 1st grade my parents took me and my little brother to the Sequoia forest. I was blown away. I bought a little seedling of some pine tree and brought it back to Texas and of course being a kid it died.

That was 30 years ago. Reading this, I wonder, we have a few hundred acres, if I could grow some. Maybe even a few hundred. That is an interesting idea to plant a forest and then choose to die in it as an old man, knowing the forest could live for 3000+ years.

Thank you OP.
>>
>>134814151

Has anyone yet tried weaving multiple sequoia saplings together while still young and pliable so that they grow together into one huge supertree with a single braided trunk?
>>
>>134815907
There are bamboo species native to North America.
>>
>>134817361
Giant redwoods aren't actually good for lumber. That's part of why they weren't all harvested.
>>
>>134843617

mite b cool after 2000 years brah

also, sequoias dont grow how you think
only the ancient ones look like giant girthy fat bonzai trees (or whatever the actual species is called)
sequoias grow like a giant redwood christmas tree for the most part,
hard to imagine forcing that to grow in a bind
