Good restaurants near schools? My friends and I used to sneak out during lunch period every day to grab something to eat at a pizza place nearby. They made subs and pasta along with a whole menu with nothing but chicken on it, you could even get a pretty decent salad for around 3 bucks. Schools should really try to branch out to places around them rather than buying pallets of mystery meat, kids get out of school for a little bit and get some decent grub.

The kids are literally dumping full trays into the trash. It's not food they paid for, and it's disgusting, so into the bin it does. I feel bad for kids who had what is, no doubt, the most miserable lunch experience since the depression era. Untold millions are wasted every year on food that goes straight into the trash. When I was growing up, we had "pizza day" and it was understood as a treat, and it was actual pizza, and not this low-fat cheese stuff that is rubbery and greasy. We had hot meal options, and a salad bar. Sure, you always had that one retard that spent his lunch money on two ice-creams and a carton of milk, but most kids did eat their food, and they weren't fat. Back then there was a "you so poor" stigma and "hahaha u mommy made ur wunch for u" stigma, but still, a lot of kids brought bagged lunches. Today what passes as "food" in the schools is terrible. Oh sure, if you live in a rich district, you get your fancy hummus and fresh fruit salads. You live in a poor area? Prepare for a lunch of highly processed, "turkey used instead of beef," "low fat cheese," "bleached whole wheat flour" inedible garbage. It's literally like making sushi out of crisped kale, cauliflower rice, and fish-flavored chicken - Once you replace EVERYTHING, it is no longer what it was supposed to be in the first place.

When I was in Highschool there was a soda machine in every hallway. I'm not even kidding, Pepsi and Coke were in this constant struggle of who could sell there, and the machines were always state of the art, and prices were low. The absolute cheapest lunch you could buy was a slice of Domino's Pizza, and a basket of McDonald quality french fries.

When I was in Middleschool the cheapest thing you could buy was a gas station quality cheeseburger, and fries. They did install a salad bar, but then hiked the prices.

When I was in Grade School, I can't remember what the cheapest option was, but I remember there was breakfast. If you got there early enough, they still had breakfast pizza. I remember it being fucking delicious. Instead of marinara sauce, there was gravy. So it was gravy, sausage, and cheese. I miss those fucking pizzas.

None of those items were good for my weight, but I guess if you're going to eat extremely unhealthy, it's best to do it when you're young and active.

My grandpa was a principal of an elementary school from the early 1950s to the late 1970s.
I remember a story he told me about how the school got a whole bunch of surplus powdered milk from the war and they used that to make ice cream for the kids on Fridays.
The school was mostly white except for a few Mexicans but the cooks were Black Mammies. They would make fried chicken and mashed potatoes from scratch for lunches.

You'd need to raise the budget to get anything remotely passable compared to what many of you are used to eating from bringing in your own lunch. That's a far cry from the kind of funding a school has for lunches when often a huge chunk if not a majority of the district's meals are being subsidized.

Michelle Obama's pet law made the food healthier but worse because eating healthy properly is more expensive so eating healthier just meant eating even shittier tasting and lower quality food.

I'd say also look at steepening the ramp for free/reduced lunches so less get it and less of a degree for many of the ones that do, but that will never happen because most teachers are bleeding heart commies.

They made good food and were living a similar experience to the reality. A simulated restaurant that served the High School, Sport Center and College that were right all next to each other.
