Once upon a time, it used to be different. Detroit stood as the crown jewel of industry. The great steamships transported the natural and industrial fruits of the state to far shores, and brought back wealth, like the Black Ships of Japan in miniature. Vast parks open for hunting or hiking, more fresh water then anywhere else on earth. You could get a job, and know that with it you could buy a home, raise a family, buy a car, and keep that job until you retired. It used to be better.

Oh, we had problems, there's no debate on that, but goddammit we were BETTER. Now the whole state is rotted, a rusted shell of its old self. We've been smothered under "progressive". I don't know much about Indiana, as I don't go there that often, but I imagine the cities (even the small ones) account for a lot of the non-white population. The towns close to Chicago (like Gary) are more black as well.
As for Ohio, we're very white outside of the major cities. Cleveland is the only major city with a black majority, although Dayton and Cincinnati are very close.

Well, to be fair, I do attend a private Christian school, so about half of them are conservative because of their parents. When I lived in Memphis it blew my mind how many beautiful old buildings there were that were falling apart and no one would do anything to save them until finally the city scraped enough money to bulldoze some of them.
