There is no way to convince them because the choice they are making has obvious tangible benefits.

If you want people to work instead of relying on social programs, the answer is not to convince them, but to mitigate or eliminate the benefits of being reliant on them.

If UBI was instituted, it would have to be at a level low enough that labor is still incentivized. The fact that you never lose UBI regardless of whether you are working or not removes the work/benefit choice.

I'm not making a moralistic judgment, you're using the system to your benefit. The fact that you don't feel a push to be employed is an indication that the social welfare you receive (whether through government or otherwise) is set at too high a level.

Not really. Illegals usually end up making quite a bit more than minimum wage. In my area, they basically make 60-80k a year under the table if they have any experience in drywall or roofing. Then they pick up tons of government bennies from their broodlings that flood our schools. Their health care is solved by overcrowding our emergency rooms, and never paying anything.

They're given jobs because the employer doesn't have to go through the hassle of paperwork, and handling the additional charges associated with having legitimate employees. An American worker taking home $15 bucks an hour usually costs a company $22-25 an hour thanks to the government.
