Pope Benedict XVI was one of St. JPII's most trusted followers. More so than his predecessor, Benedict, is a highly intelligent and cultured theologian and a determined defender of tradition against progressive tendencies. He created a new legal space for the latin mass which did not have a good standing since Vatican II.

Both were great Popes and polar opposite of the marxist subversive who currently occupies the Chair of St. Peter.

I've always heard John Paul II was bad and supported Vatican II. Benedict XVI supported Vatican II in the past but actually did some good job when he was pope, and he's surely a better pope than Francis.

Well Benedict the 16th allowed free celebration of the Latin Mass in Summorum Pontificum so he was in some way against Vatican II. JPII worked with the cardinal of Warsaw, Stefan Wyszyński, to stop the rise of Vatican 2 promoters in the conclave that ended up having him elected.
