APOLOGIZE

Did anyone ever suspect otherwise?

I remember us just arguing whether they did it because they were simply not paying attention, or on purpose out of typical American "hurr durr best country in the world, you move out of the way Philippines!" arrogance.
>>
>>134666214
They're both fucking morons. The Philippine vessel had the right of way and the destroyer should have moved. But Jesus Christ if one person had bothered looking at the reality of the situation instead of assuming "They'll move" then we wouldn't even be talking about this.
>>
>>134666363
I don't think it's so easy to change the course of a freighter at the last moment.
>>
>>134666548
Of course not, but the issue is both ships assumed right of way and never even attempted to verify it. As hard as it is to turn a freighter it's phenomenally more difficult to crash head on into a destroyer in this fucking day and age
>>
No shit the ddg was at fault, there are 4-5 people on watch on the bridge underway with an aft-lookout in the back not including the various retards down in combat whose sole job it is to watch a fucking radar screen/ais for surface contacts
even if the ddg was in the "right" with the nautical rules of the road they would still be at fault because you are in what is the ship version of a fucking bugatti, aka stupidly fast and extremely maneuverable and should be able to dodge anything short of a smallboat trying to ram it at 35 kts
>>
>>134666693
So how would a redundant system like that fail? The posts just weren't being manned?

>>134666645
Well if both assumed the right of way then only 1 was in the wrong. And it was the destroyer. On the seas there is always a bit of shared responsibility but the majority of the fault lies on the US.
>>
Woman was in charge wasn't she?
>>
>>134666857
it happened at 2 in the morning, the watches on the bridge didnt pay attention the cargo ship, probably assumed they werent going to hit them, and the guys down in combat are probably snuggled up in there big ass coat asleep because its a/c'd to 63 down there, and the aft lookout like always was passed the fuck out in the helo tower
>>
>>134667081
I'm not disputing this at all. Everyone NCO/Officer on that destroyer has had their careers finished.

But the reality is, even if the US is 100% at fault legally, this whole situation could have been avoided with a little common sense from either side.

this or a dindu

>In the first detailed account from one of those directly involved, the cargo ship's captain said the ACX Crystal had signalled with flashing lights after the Fitzgerald “suddenly” steamed on to a course to cross its path.

>The container ship steered hard to starboard to avoid the warship, but hit the Fitzgerald 10 minutes later at 1:30am, according to a copy of Captain Ronald Advincula's report to Japanese ship owner Dainichi Investment Corporation that was seen by Reuters.

Sounds like the container ship did everything they could to avoid the collision.

This wouldn't have happened if US navy was only composed by BIG BLACK submarines.

How does that happen?

More high speed rail=fewer ships=fewer collisions.
>>
>>134666857
This may seem insane, but people can be negligent and/or incompetent.

that's what the investigation is for
it's going to be interesting when they release the report
the poor captain was sleeping when this happened and he was severely injured by the collision because the impact hit his room
his junior officers fucked him

Is the captain of the ship going to face charges for the 7 guys that died? Or is he going to get a DD?

>likely at fault

They were completely at fault, Americans need to learn how to drive, can't just go from A to B courteously it's like every driver is fucked in the head and has a personal vandetta against everyone else on the road, impatient and unable to work in a reasonable and logical manner with other drivers.
