Anyone notice how in recent years google search became useless? Before (Around 5 years ago) You could find anything you searched for and it was quality sites/Forums other people saying somethingetc... Now its riddled with adds and blog robotic sities, and when you type something it finds irelevant and bad results that have the words all over the place and its nothing you typed about. It all started going down when they removed ''Discussions'' search tool. Is google trying to suppress information? Don't even get me started on google images which can't find shit.

Google forum Search Filter:
inurl:forum|viewthread|showthread|viewtopic|showtopic|"index.php?topic" | intext:"reading this topic"|"next thread"|"next topic"|"send private message"

I didn't make this, but can confirm that it works at the moment. Supposedly using it violates Google's TOS.
But fuck those cunts.
>>
>>134637417
>Supposedly using it violates Google's TOS
it doesn't, it's just advanced search
>>
information inflation, back in 2003~2008 there weren't as many sites as there are now trying to capitalize on google search, at the same time there weren't as many sites trying their hardest to hide their content behind robots.txt
>>
>>134637703
I copied it from an app extension. When I first used it I got some weird warning from google about using unapproved chrome extensions. When i turned it off, and tried ctrl+v'ing the text from it, I'd occasionally have to solve captchas before they'd allow me to search.
Shouldve screen capped it, I know. But try it yourself, I bet it'll happen to you.
>>
>>134637967
many people just don't use advanced search, and google puts those simple shitty captcha in place to make sure that automated bots using google as a regex search of the internet aren't getting it easy
It happened with me and GRIS several times, the truth is that it is actually bot behavior you're expressing, and there's no way for them to tell you apart from bots when you use that long-ass advanced search string to look for something really specific
>>
>>134637967
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/discussions-button-for-go/igjiggoeheaondbmhmilpmbdkpgcjmdn?hl=en
>>134638243
My bad, you're right. I mustve been thinking of the older version of the app. The dev claims that he updated it to just add filters.
I knew they were just filters anyway, but figured google was dickish enough to try to ban those.
>>
>>134638365
eh it's not about "banning", restricting them behind captchas is a leaky patch to a problem, not really a solution. Google is pushing chrome browser identification of clients hard because it's their one way to tell apart bots and humans with a pretty decent rate of success. Sucks for privacy, but it's a trade-off they're more than welcoming because they're doing NOTHING with all the data they're getting, and most of it is just to tell you apart from automatic scripts, and inherently useless to anyone.
The useful information they can sell they already get from you in other ways, from other services, so they don't really need your search history outside of telling you apart from johnny-5
>>
Man, I use DuckDuckGo
>>
Duckduck go brings back the good search and protected you from their advert target bullshit
>>
>>134639257
This guy gets it.

You get shit results because of the web of shit you're history tangles you up in.

>>134639257
>>134639379
>>134639465
I find startpage gets better results
>>
>>134639465
As a rule, I don't fuck with Google unless it's Youtube. I don't do anything inherently bad on the internet, but that targeted advertising bullshit fucks with me. I also don't want Google building a profile of me due to my search habits
>>
>>134636491
searching torrents/piracy/hacking/illegal is heavily filtered
on porn searches you need t be specific also heavily filtered

>>134639257
>>134639379
>>134639465
>>134639548
duckduckgo and similar have the same problem of bot-search, they're inherently filtered out as "unwanted" much like bing was when google found out, they're quietly getting shittier and shittier results because the system thinks someone launching seven hundred research per minute MUST BE a bot. Some search results are also automatically blocked from appearing in those search, not by google itself but by the system they put in place to fight bot search spam.
It's another trade-off they're happy with
>>134639617
The "profile" built of you is machine-code shit, much like their shitty spam filter, everything is automated and as little as possible is passed through human eyes. People that think google is capable of profiling people doesn't get that most of the "profiling" is an automated process that collects very little actual information and just grabs you stuff from predefined pools from where to get the targeted ad experience.
Hell, your video history is not even available to them.

People in general think Google works because of the people behind it, pulling the strings. In reality, it's a really good machine that works as it was programmed to do
>>
>>134638742
Good to know. By the way, how's the battle going for you eurofags? My family is friends with a Swiss couple, and I'm worried for them and their hot daughter. Here in burgertown people are starting to slowly wake up at least.
>>
>>134639911
wouldn't know, I'd say some people are getting back at humanitarian fucks and telling them to fuck off finally, but I can't be 100% sure it's happening everywhere. Shit is getting done somewhat
Switzerland, as far as I know, it's the one europeon country that has no problem with it because they never let their guard down as far as borders go. And they're not in the EU.
So yeah, they'll be fine
>>
Imho google is still king of the search engines, but might not be worth the botnet
Bing and yahoo are trash
Duckduckgo is pretty good, and in my opinion the only alternative to google.
Startpage is slow as fuck and sucked when i used it
Searx and other memes are trash, but alteast respect your privacy
I know some people will insist ddg is still a botnet, but i see it as the less intrusive, but still viable alternative to google
>>
>>134640089
Honestly I've heard differently for the Swiss. The wife in said couple is a k-12 teacher, and was pretty far left up until recently. Half her students are "refugees" who don't speak the language or respect the culture, and she's getting freaked out. But yeah, at least they're not EU.

We're praying for you faggots.
>>
>>134640699
Agreed - this is why i switched back after a
brief period of paranoia which followed my first red pill (hate that term now, btw, maybe we need a new one). I'm hoping that there're just too many to monitor nowadays.
Aside from issues of privacy and ethics (still hate google), is there any other reason to switch engines?

No.

>Before 5 years ago you find anythhing

It's closer to 10, but your point stands. Results in Google are terrible if you're trying to find something new
>>
>>134642586
Positive. And yeah, I've heard the same about the swedes - undoubtedly they're in worse shape than the swiss.
I last spoke to them in November, so maybe things have improved, but I doubt it. It's a shame - beautiful country with really hot women. And they make awesome fucking guns.

Seriously, buy a swiss made piece if you've got the cash. Their machining make ours look shit.
>>
DuckDuckGo is the alternative to google search.
>>
>>134636491
They've done the ol 'suck em in, fuck em out' maybe Lycos can make a come back.
>>
Yes I have noticed this. It's either got especially bad or I reached my tipping point.
I just add "forum" to my search, no fancy advanced search and it works just fine. I'll no longer read normal websites for information because it's all just text diarrhea and affiliate links, nothing of any substance.
Sad that the internet forum has died except for this place and reddit. And 4Chan captchas have become insane I'm done posting here.
>>
5 years ago its called brain washing now its called ads.
>>
>>134636491
No, they're trying to push everyone to adwords instead of ranking organically.

If youd search "when does season 8 of archer premier", whatever the latest season is. Is there a show sentence on a website with a date? No, a wall of 1000 words talking nonsense about the show and eventually saying they're not sure.

I'm too tired and on my phone but a lot has to do with that. Notice a few years ago forums had to have a blog all of a sudden?

Long story short they forced webmasters to have huge walls of text to rank.

Google search is crap now.

Google used to be great but it's basically unusable now. It's so filtered and censored that you never find what you want. Also, I don't know why but it seems like the Internet used to be much more interesting several years ago. Fuck Web 2.0. All BS, no content.

I like Bing. MS really shot themselves in the foot with Bing in Europe, they hadn't got the localisation settings outside the US figured out yet but they decided to get a little brand awareness out there anyway by rebranding MSN search as Bing. The trouble there is MSN search was garbage, so now all Europeans thought Bing was garbage, because they thought they were using Bing when they were using MSN search. I think they've given up on bringing Bing to Europe now.
>>
>>134639835
It's okay that you're being tracked and profiled and whatever because it's a bot doing it, not a person. So it's totally fine.

Are you a time traveler? Google hasn't given me better results than Bing for years.
>>
>>134636491
It became shit around 2007 because they fell for the AI meme. Now it's literally impossible to find anything with google. From censorship to A "meme" I, to paid deals to (((agendas))), the result is a clusterfuck of unrelated results for the first 20 pages, and a 0% match thereon.
>>
>>134651754
bing is unironically even worse than google in every single way.
>>
I think it's weird that around 2007 or so you could google your name and it would show a phone number, now they removed it. Who is storing phone numbers these days?
>>
>>134652286

Can you describe those ways?
>>
>>134652286
They're not as prudish when it comes to censoring nudity. If you google search "vagina" you'll probably get a few drawn diagrams and some gross photos of STIs, but if you bing search it you'll get photos of non-disgusting vaginas.
>>
>>134652490
For example: look for a paper on arxiv using "arxiv [paper title]". Google: first link is the paper, next few links are discussion threads (reddit and others) about the paper, next few links are unrelated. Bing? First 3 links are completely unrelated, next link is the paper, rest are even less related. None of them point to discussion either. In general, bing gives significantly worse results than google every time I tried to use it.
>>134652776
There's a safe search toggle with google but people also say they further censor things even when safe search is off. I don't use search engines to find porn, though.
>>
>>134653049
Oh yeah, and the paper link from google is the proper arxiv link while the bing one is a strange link that appears to be a direct host link instead of the balancer frontend link.

Internet search engine should never be in any way "censored". It should just scan the Internet and offer you relevant search results (as it used to be). Nothing more, nothing less.
>>
>>134637967
The captcha is to hinder automated programs from scraping content. It's been that way for atleast 10 years.

it's a very interesting post OP.

I have noticed something funny with youtube, back in the day you could see the top subscribed channels on youtube on youtube.com

when you search for it now it lists clickbait articles and wikipedia. the official site has totally removed this feature. I'm of the belief that they removed it after the massive popularity of right wing channels
