I'm not really sure about mega-churches, but in my area, I know of some Catholic and Baptist churches that allow people to rent apartments are a huge discount. They do not provide free housing as that would discourage the people living there from seeking working or actively improving there situation.

Mega churches have their place. If they are of God and run by true followers of Christ they will be vital in their community. Mega churches like Joel Olestien are a cash grab from false prophets. On the other hand have you ever been to a homeless shelter? Try volunteering for a night shift for a week, like 8-10 hours a day to truly soak in their work. Even a small one, say 50 beds is incredibly hard to manage and stay functional. A mega homeless shelter would ultimately turn into a shithole compound that the people will turn on the workers and get over run. What a terrible idea. 600-700 people on an average Sunday in a town of 10000 people.

We do a lot of work for the community, both ours and the ones around us.

Charity, Meals, Recovery Ministry, Missionary Sponsorship, Housing help, Tornado or flooding cleanup, Mission trips, outreach programs, satellite churches, Samaritan's purse, etc, etc.

I don't know how that size of mega church is, but at least in my community, you can feel the impact of having a big Church all around you.

I was thinking of starting a slave camp in my country, but too much work and too costly.
