Y chromosome can be mistaken for an "X" and be bundled up as a "barr body" (something that happens in the female body to prevent over transcription of X related genes). With all Y related genes completely concealed from ribosomes, the body will become a female. And it's not super uncommon either.

I had a botched appendectomy when my appendix burst. The incision got infected and I had to "pack" the wound to keep it open for a week until I could see the surgeon again. This consisted of me stuffing gauze into the wound to stop it from closing.

There are three genders: masculine, feminine, and neutral. Also, gender is a linguistic term that only applies to words, not organisms. If a male starts filling in for female gender roles and vice versa, we need to either redefine our social constructs or concede that there exist multiple gender roles.
Current thinking is that gender can exist on a spectrum of male to female, much the same as sexuality. I don't necessarily like it but I do agree that it seems to be the case.
