First of all get a name everyone can identify with, so yuo don't sound like a right wing guy, if you decide to vote for them.. There's not enough room for interpretations.

They focused on the wrong people. Instead of trying to catch the youth, they seemed to talk to the older ones the get the "good old germany back". The problem is that you'll get outpointed as a Nazi stating this, which is in noone interest, if you try to get to a top politician lvl or simple popularity in your friend-/familiycycle.
They were far to direct. Saying how bad immigrants are for germany will only change a few peoples opinion, rather than do it subtil to get them to think about it themselfs and slowly but constantly pushing out informations/laws/whatever to strongen this opinion.

Intellectualist used to be an insult for sombody who just sits around imagining all the ways the grass could be greener without applying any effort to actually do anything about it.

Eventually, instead of rallying to save the empire the stagnant top heavy culture caves into petty infighting between assorted intellectuals. Instead of rallying and responding to the threat the assorted elites and great thinkers bicker about the idiocy of everyone elses ideas and the superiority of their own whilst the barbarians are already sacking the city.

Intellect is a virtue, but only when coupled with willpower and action. Otherwise its just inventing reasons to continue being lazy.
