The only reason any population spread to Britain is for conquest. You didn't have farmers and women and children migrating. You had successive waves of invasions, mostly from seafaring scandinavians or their decendents (Vikings, Angles/Saxons, Normans, etc). So the British are actually less of a melting pot like continental Europeans, or more a well-defined mixture of a handful of warlike people.
