By being outlandish, crude, protectionist, and many other things, he managed to win the hearts of many americans and won the election. Hillary had a good strategy, Trump just had a better one.

The problem is the democratisation of America. It was never intended to be a democracy. People are A) Stupid and B) will vote for whoever promises them free shit at the expense of others. It was supposed to be a country governed by the natural rights of man, set in stone by the Constitution. But those ideals have been perverted by the increased level of government authority. 1913 was the point of no return really: Federal Reserve was created giving the government power over money; the democratisation of the senate by the 17th amendment; and the legalisation of income tax by the 16th.
