According to FlightAware this path is normal for Delta 158 and the plane is in fact undershooting its path. Google Earth shows the great circle route going over the Beaufort Sea well clear of Alaska. Google Earth screenshot coming next post.

The reason so many planes head to Anchorage is because a lot are cargo planes that refuel there
