Collapse wouldn't be the end if our demographics were in order. Unfortunately the civic life of the country is inextricably linked to economic prosperity because it's the only thing that keep our underlying division from manifesting as civil conflict.

The simple fact is that economies and political systems have always gone through oscillations. So far no one has figured out a system that prevents oscillation, or even a system that values stability over growth in the first place. Our misfortune is our current impending minimum coincides with barbarians at (or rather already in) the gates--which is when civilizations are destroyed without an opportunity to rebuilt.

Aye, before we could weather the storm somewhat due to being a somewhat loose people(Europeans). Even with that loose relationship things almost went to another revolution during the great depression. Now the only thing we share is economic prosperity and once that slides fully away we will kill each other.

Honestly, the U.S. and the world economy are hanging by a fucking thread and nobody wants to admit it.

We never recovered from the Great Recession or the Iraq War. We've never been more politically polarized.

Extremist political factions on all sides are gradually rising in most nations.

We never fixed the underlying problems that created the mess we're in.

All it takes is another recession, and this powder keg explodes.
