Unlike Europe our revolt stems from a highly educated propertied class of lawyers. The American constitutional back by it's judicial system is the final and most powerful force ever made against the madness of the mob in a democratic republic.

Even if the general public forgets our unalienable rights our elite judicial class will not. They have studied our history and understand that the rights we carried here as englishmen are not whims to be voted upon. And that those rights have for centuries included a basic right to bear arms.

When we look back in history at the history of gun control it always ends up being about denying individuals the ability to defend themselves based on whatever was the prejudice at the time. The oldest gun control laws were laws to prevent blacks from being to keep and bear arms. At the end of the civil war and ww1 armed blacks were striped of their right to bear arms. California's more recent gun laws stem back to Ronald Reagan freaking out over armed blacks on the capitol steps demonstrating their rights.

It is much more difficult to brutalize an armed community. It helps ensure that a government, no matter how biased, is forced to respect their other rights. It makes conflict less worthwhile than communication. Racial violence required isolating people from their guns. But our history shows black veterens standing up for themselves post-ww1 and protecting their neighborhoods thanks to their guns. In the LA riots it was armed asians using their guns to defend themselves against rioting blacks. The times change, the benefit the immortal right provides does not.

We should be especially wary when today's gun control seeks not only just to make powerless a single group, but to make powerless all of us.
