It's pretty good. Things are a little sad here and stuff is a little run down, but people are fine and food is good and cheap. There also aren't very many tourists.

I saw many university age people smoking/drinking and playing ping pong in public parks during the day.

Also there's obviously money coming from somewhere - around Sofia I've seen a Maybach, Bentleys, and lots of S classes and A8s.

Bachelor in Tourism here.

The countryside is beautiful and full of places to visit and trek.
The cities are degenerate shitholes infested with gypsies and mentals everywhere.
If you choose to roam the country you're bound to hit a jackpot.
But if you're going to spend your time in w/e town/city its a waste of time mostly.
Clubbing is almost non-existant but if you choose to have a few drinks at the local bar always have a knife or knuckles or just be prepare to be creative and always watch out for cheap shots since there's no clear distinction in behavioural patterns between the average bulgarian and a gypsy.

Also it's hilarious but the weirdest part of Sofia was the synagogue in the "Zone of Tolerance". They had a remote locking gate with a webcam and a guard watching to let me in, and then a metal detector wand, and then they charged admission, when the mosque and Orthodox Church just let me walk in.

Hire a tour guide cuz you wont make it far + you're verily going to try and rip you off real quick.
Its dirt cheap to hire some vapid whore from some touring agency or your best bet would be to hire a local from wherever you decide to go.
Usually somebody from the municipality or something. Its a matter of luck + chance but im sure you'll get around somehow.
Just don't go on your own people here might look white(some) but internally most of us are not far from gypsies.
